Error sending mail

I have an HTC Tilt 2 from AT&T and am having trouble sending e-mail. I got a the Pop3 and SMTP server settings from Cox's website and have no trouble receiving mail just get an error sending. Any ideas?
 
Are you east, west or central?

pop.west.cox.net:110 pop3
pop.east.cox.net:110 pop3
pop.central.cox.net:110 pop3

smtp.west.cox.net:25 smtp
smtp.east.cox.net:25 smtp
smtp.central.cox.net:25 smtp

Also, Cox only authenticates with LHS. (Left hand side) of your email.

Example--
Email: [email protected]
Login: MetricGnome - will not work as full email address.
 
Thanks for the reply, but a no go still. Now the mail just sits in the outgoing box no matter how many times I hit send/receive.
 
This is common for most residential ISPs mail servers.

You can't send email through COX's SMTP server if you are off-network using port 25.

Alternatively, if the Tilt 2 supports SMTP authentication and SSL, you can use port 465 with SSL and authentication set to password using the same login credentials as your POP settings. See http://support.cox.com/sdccommon/as...sprt_cid=a401da4a-6e7d-423e-95f6-aa0f2943c01f for more information.

*A second alternative is port 587, which should be SSL off, but SMTP authentication on. I can't test this though since I'm not a COX user :)
