Epic Games Launcher makes AMD Ryzen CPUs run hotter even without any game running

their explanation is that so it can pause an update to a game if you are playing it.
That explanation doesn't pass the smell test. There is zero reason to constantly check that instead of running a quick check when launching a game and before downloading an update.

Like you mentioned there's also no need to connect to a server for that, they would need to connect to check for updates but there's no reason to do that constantly. Another thing that seems off is that it's one thing to waste cpu cycles on a users computer and another to waste server capacity that they have to pay for, but maybe it's not enough for them to care about.
