Hey guys I am running into a really strange problem and I cannot find a solution. I am trying to encrypt a flash drive with BitLocker but this particular flash drive has the BitLocker option greyed out on the manage drive tools screen. I have tested 5 other flash drives I own and all of them are able to be encrypted with bit locker. does anyone have any ideas on why I cannot encrypt this new flash drive I just got?

Thanks
Mike

I was able to find the command to check on the status of the drive and this is what I got back. It says that the drive is not a valid bitlocker volume. How do I correct this?

Ok Not sure how I fixed it. The steps I took were:

1. Created a smaller partition
2. deleted the simple volume to make the entire drive unallocated storage
3. Formated the flash drive in NSTF with default settings
4. Unplugged the drive and plugged it back in
5. Worked

I would still be interested in what happened and why this fixed it if anyone knows.
