you should be able to, im close but playing at 1440p and letting freesync smooth it out. (similar systems)I'm looking forward to finally sitting down with this tonight, hopefully my performance at 1080p will be "average of 60" with mix of high/med settings
just understand that is still the 2006 game, in a 2025 skinsuit, so its still feels/plays basically the same. The screenshots in this group have enticed me enough to jump back into this game. I'm succumbing to peer pressure.
typical ue5 stuff. tone down settings a bit and it seems to be fine. all the og jank seems to still be there too...Sounds like there are some performance kinks to work out anyways.

I don't mind a reskin. Bethesda went the BluePoint route with this remaster, jank, glitches and all, and I'm all for it.you should be able to, im close but playing at 1440p and letting freesync smooth it out. (similar systems)

i just changed res and set it to medium, then turned textures up to high and turned off all the screen effects/motion blur. i didnt do too much fiddling with settings, i just rolled with it as i wasnt even sure if i was going to keep going with it (still not), its not holding my attention very well. exp. 33 it more compelling at the moment...Now I can leave for work with a smile on my face, ty sir!
- And thank god for Gsync/Freesync amiright? ha
EDIT: If you could PM a screenshot of your settings (to save me an hour of fussing), that would be beyond awesome!
- But if you're too busy, I totalllllllly get it
I might try again in a few months, but after just a few hours I’m out.
The developer made a clear choice to leave the gameplay almost completely intact. 20 years ago I loved the gameplay. Today, it’s just too rudimentary for me.
I’ll try again in a few months but I’m kind of surprised and deflated that I didn’t fall for this the way some of you have. God I really wanted to love this game.
It's almost like they did not remake the game and it is just a remaster of the graphics.
It’s a remake.
and in the exact same vid they say it is a remaster and that its using the underlying code and core of the og game with the visuals completely reworked. ue5 takes instructions from the old game code. so you are wrong. The developer stated in the reveal trailer
It’s a remake.
Some people keep saying this game got ‘a new coat of paint’. But it didn’t. A new coat of paint is applied over old paint on an existing framework. When you rebuild or remake a structure, the ‘coat of paint’ isn’t going over top of anything.
The developer stated in the reveal trailer that thousands of assets were remade from the ground up.The character models, for example, were remade. That’s not a new coat of paint over something old. It’s just regular paint over something new.
Regarding actual gameplay: remakes don’t typically change the gameplay mechanics very much. Rather, the mechanics get tweaked. This was the case with The Dead Space 2023 remake, and it’s also the case here. The gameplay was tweaked a little.
I was merely saying that the span of 20 years was too much for me to take with this particular game, and that’s entirely on me… not the game.
jank, glitches and all, and I'm all for it.
Was it not confirmed by now to be the case? Some people keep saying this game got ‘a new coat of paint’. But it didn’t. A new coat of paint is applied over old paint on an existing framework. When you rebuild or remake a structure, the ‘coat of paint’ isn’t going over top of anything.
I love how they did it to be honest. Too many times companies change so much that to get the nostalgia feeling you just go play the original. This makes the younger me happy while playing it.
Damn she already thicc as hell, just going overboard now!
it has begun... lolSooo... anyone else waiting on nude mods?
First time in a long time that I have had big problems with starting a game and/or using general settings.Holy $#!& its Legolas!
I'm downloading this right now, on PC Gamepass. Will be running on an Intel 265K with 48GB DDR5 8400 and a PNY 4070 TI Super.
Now the game won't even launchFirst time in a long time that I have had big problems with starting a game and/or using general settings.
The game completed shader compilation and then crashed to desktop, before the main menu.
It loaded fine after that.
However, the option for upscaling shows nothing. Hardware acclerarted GPU scheduling is indeed, active on my system.
I updated to the latest Nvidia hotfix driver, thinking maybe my driver was too old for Oblivion. It did not recompile shaders after the driver update.
Now the game tells me i'm out of video memory and it closes immediately after I click "ok" on that warning message.
I also can't get it to recomplile shaders, no matter how many hidden folders and caches I delete.
Idk if this is related to what's happening to you, but the first time I launched it took about 10 minutes to compile shaders. And half way through it switched from my primary display in 4k resolution to my upper left display which is only 2560x1440 but the game stayed in 4k stretching across 3 of my screens. Then once it finally finished it switched resolution and fit on that screen. Then I was able to switch to the correct screen in the settings. Now the game won't even launch
game pass an option?Dam hope this shows up on GoG sooner rather than later, I don't want to buy it on steam then on GoG later like the the original cause I am already tempted to buy it already lol.
Was it not confirmed by now to be the case?

It's important to note that this is a remaster, not a remake. This project uses Unreal Engine, but only for the presentation aspects like graphics and audio. Bethesda's engine is still there handling the gameplay logic and systems.
That said, Virtuos has also made changes on that front. Most notably, today's announcement revealed that the remaster will have a completely overhauled leveling system, which is described as combining elements from Oblivion and Skyrim.

Well yes, anything that purely graphic presentation... can be called a remodeling without getting people angry, making some rules you can only work on shaders and lights code, without touching assets or now I am angry you are misleading customers by calling it a remaster..... (something they can see in trailers) is a strange position to take. PC games cannot be remastered by just making an higher framerate or resolution available, those were already working, would be hard to remaster something without any assets update, light shaders would have mods for them.
And what way remaking the asset make Bethesda guilty of misleading the customer here ? They can see all that in a quick trailer, a remaster is a quick way to say: not oversold-expectation wise how much of a new game it will be, re-assure people that worry the game will have changed (and they clearly present a list of few change, because so little changed that it is possible to do).
Do you get angry if half-life 2 RTX is called a remaster because the asset changed ? And phrase like:
. At the same time, we'll be remastering all of the game's assets, to be made available to the (https://www.hl2rtx.com/)
Must be really bothering to read, but it communicates something important, looking as much as the original possible in spirit but just higher quality (remastering asset) vs remake (having something new to say, but inspired by the original)
no, there isnt. listen to the friggin devs instead of cherry picking random opinion pieces disguised as "news" about a different game. holy fuck.l

“Now that we've seen the Oblivion remaster surface as a joint project between Bethesda and Virtuos, we know it's more of a remake than a remaster.”
Very true - unless you simply don’t understand the difference between a remaster and a remake and why it actually does matter.
There’s a lot of confusion about this.
drive is good? checked file integrity? The only problem left for me, at this point, is that very occasionally, the game will never finish loading a load screen. This can happen when I launch the game, it can happen while playing for a long time and then load to an interior or exterior and.......it just loads forever. Seems to never complete.
Yes I checked file integrity. I even manually deleted a few files, to force it to do more than simply check.drive is good? checked file integrity?
Just had a nostalgia trip, first computer I built on my own without the help of my dad was to play this game. I had just bought a regular Radeon X1900 GT and an Athlon X64 4200+, computer was a beast at the time. The first time I played this and WoW on it was mesmerizing. Interestingly enough, the last couple of years is the first time I've had an all radeon / amd PC since that computer. After that I had a 2600k for forever and a bunch of nvidia cards. He's actually a generation behind being on the x800 series.

I suppose the question mark is that I am running my 265K with cache, D2D, and NGU tweaks. And I also recently installed DDR5 8400.Yes I checked file integrity. I even manually deleted a few files, to force it to do more than simply check.
I don't think there is anything wrong with my hard drives. I haven't had any other weird issues with games.
My OS is installed on a Western Digital SN5000 2TB (and that drive got the firmware update to prevent W11 issues on DRAMless drives, before I even installed the OS. As I put the drive into a different computer and updated the firmware).
My games are on an Acer GM7000 2TB (this drive has DRAM).
*I suppose the question mark is that I am running my 265K with cache, D2D, and NGU tweaks. And I also recently installed DDR5 8400.
General tests have been fine. But, maybe I should do the y-Cruncher 2.5B test...
As expected, it didn't take long for PC Gamer to put out a whiney editorial about it. No surprises that the cowardly shit stains disabled comments. Now grab some popcorn and laugh as the "its not a big deal" crowd lose their minds.
Author needs to be corrected, the male/female terminology isn't "anti-trans". At worst it's body shaming. As expected, it didn't take long for PC Gamer to put out a whiney editorial about it. No surprises that the cowardly shit stains disabled comments.
