Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

I hoped you turned off camera movements like head bob in the options menu in the game. This will without doubt give you a headache as it does it to me. Every time you walk the screen will slightly move, and if you are sensitive to that stuff you will get a migraine. The game is so much better and smoother after turning off that option.

Cyberpunk also was giving me migraines and then I turned off those camera animations and migraines gone.

EDIT: of course you may need to increase your FOV to at least 90.

Several tips have come to light that I hadn't tried so I'm going to give the game another shot. Didn't see the setting for head-bob, that sounds like a definite trigger. FOV was the first thing I adjusted. Thank you

I'm really loving Oblivion Remastered, lol, I posted the same thing in 2006 here on hardforum.

My game runs pretty smooth, no complaints at all, but I do have a 4090 and a 9800x3d. I also use frame generation, and usually have over 100 FPS outdoors. I don't see the problem with using frame generation, for me, its so much better when I use it at my 4K resolution.

That being said, I probably only put in 50-100 hours in the original game in 2006, not that much and never completed the main story line. I don't remember much at all of the game.

If I was playing for the first time, I would not know it was even based on an old engine. I do see sometimes the enemies don't react, some minor stuff like that, but the game runs solid for me.

Yeah the sweet spot for my 4090/9800x3d seems to be 4k DLAA with FG. I will admit frame gen really does work well for Oblivion!

give DLAA a shot, looks so good.

I bought it, played a short bit and, well, I love it.

The opening intro with Patrick Stewart's voiceover is my favorite game intro of all time and to see it rendered with such majesty was thrilling. Given the massive improvement in gaming experience I enjoy today (large OLED, amazing sound system) versus whatever tiny monitor and desktop speakers I had back in ~2006, it's such an immersive improvement.

How does it run? Did not play the original. If this plays more like Fallout 3/NV in terms of dialogue options and the ability to kill most characters I may be interested in trying it. If it is like fantasy Starfield, I'll pass.
Honestly I'm playing it maxed out at 4k on a LG OLED with a 4090 and an ancient threadripper 3, and with frame generation I get a very comfortable and enjoyable 70ish fps. I like it.

Are you able to use hardware lumen? I had to turn it off to get decent performance. I should've bought a 4090 years ago lol

I have the same setup except an intel 9900k. I have settings maxed with hardware lumen on low and DLSS on balanced with frame gen on auto and get around 80 fps outdoors, anywhere inside it easily hits my 118 cap.

I didn't experiment much with the settings, maybe it would be worth lowering certain thiings to get closer to 120, but it looks so good how it is and runs well enough I didn't bother.

You should be able to use FSR4 with the new driver update this week. Not sure sure about frame gen, but I would think that works as well.

Still pretty bad performance with those turned on?

I vaguely recall my GTX680 SLI setup hitting mid-60s in Oblivion.

Correction: I had 680s for Skyrim. For Oblivion, I think I had 8800 GTX SLIs
I think at the time Oblivion was released you couldn't do better than the GeForce 7-series or Radeon X1900 series. Eventually the 8800 series came out but the game was already out and "old" by then. Those are the cards I'm talking about. The 8800GTX finally was the single card thet did the game justice though, if I recall correctly.

Blows my mind that my 560 GTX that I got used a long time ago just laughed at the game. Sometimes I love playing older games that crushed my old computers and see my newer machines chew through them like they're nothing.

Anyways.... (cool story bro, etc. :D )

Also - anyone else beat the game at a stupid low level? I got tired of trying to level up and for the hell of it I just ran through it. Literally running through and not attacking people. You can actually do this. You'll die a couple of times here and there but you don't technically need to beat anyone since the rest of the enemies level up with you they won't really hurt you all that much. What a joke. Also the end you just watch someone fight the final baddy. Like you don' even participate. (sorry for the spoilers but the game's almost 20 years old)

yeah enemies level with you. i saw a vid of a guy beating it at like 5 or 6 maybe.

I mean Skyrim was the same way, if you do even a quarter of the side quests before doing the main story, you're grossly over-levelled for the final battle(s).

This game really does a number on my Intel 13700k had 100c on my CPU on three cores going to disable XMP. I can't believe how negative the Steam Forums are if it isn't a performance complaint it's why the game sucks. The body type thing really left people unhinged.
The game is pretty RAM sensitive. You may drop some noticeable performance, without XMP. Instead, I would try it wouth Hyperthreading. That usually noticeably lowers power and heat in gaming. And if there is a performance loss, its usually small. Sometimes, you actually gain without HT.

It's just gotten trendy with open world games period. I mean Cyberpunk is the same way. Everything levels with you so I imagine you could blaze through the game and beat it at a fairly low level if you wanted to. I understand why games do it to allow for more freedom of where you go, but it is something I've never been a huge fan of.

I have it on and it seems okay. Without frame interpolation I would have left it off, but between DLSS and frame generation, it's above the line for me.

I keep reading about everyone not happy with the performance, stuttering, artifacts etc. I must say that I am not seeing any of this. I have a 4090/9800X3d, ultra everything, RT Tracing, I'm running at a smooth 100-150FPS outside, and more inside.

I prefer to use frame generation as I see no issues with it but advantages and much smoother gameplay. What I don't get is why anyone would complain about frame generation when it makes everything so much better.

I don't feel any kind of bad lag or stuttering either, just fast smooth performance.

I see no issues what so ever, no crashes, I love the way it looks even though I was worried it did look brown in the leak but to me the game looks realistic. I'm actually amazed by how good everything looks especially how good close up stuff looks.

The dungeons look amazing, wow, when you get close to textures they look, like right up against a wall or ground and look at it, it has so much detail. In the past, looking close up at a wall or ground it would look fake and have no detail.

I love doing the stupid quests, like following someone, breaking into their house to get evidence, . I don't even bother with the main story quest, the fun quests are the stupid little side quests in the game. I like meeting the NPC's in the game as many are unique and have issues. You can't get this kind of stuff in any other game that I know of.

Nexus Mods folded.

Now grab some popcorn and laugh as the "its not a big deal" crowd lose their minds.

I'm not trying to knock your opinions bro but "I have a 9800X3D and a 4090 and the game runs fine" is literally a meme.
Anyway I played for maybe an hour before I quit and performance was good (for my system). So I guess I agree with you lol.

Man, people are spending more time bitching about text in the character creation than talking about the game. :p

Found this guy even though he's invisible bribed another Mage in order to get into Mage's Guild which I'm in but I need approval from like 7 different Guild Masters. This game has fast travel I'm not sure when they put that in the game.

It's a modern 3D layer over the old game code, so there's not a lot that will change in terms of how the game behaves
Yeah, I know. But they did improve certain things like combat and leveling so I thought they may have improved other aspects as well.
I'll wait for Skyblivion and compare it.

"Dad, how was I made?"

"Well my dear type 1... If a body type 1 meets a body type 2 and they love each other very much, body type 1 may put his penis into body type 2 to show how much it loves it and inject sperm into body type 2's body, and then a baby is created.
The exception is if one of the body types were wrongly randomly assigned a body type at birth and it felt more comfortable having a different body type instead. Because even if genders are fluid and based on personal choice, a body type 2 that becomes a body type 1, or vice versa, can't create a baby because it is physically different and incapable of it.
But there are no differences between type 1 and 2, it is just words and doesn't mean anything.

Oh, and BTW, you were adopted"

"Dad, I'm confused"

I might try again in a few months, but after just a few hours I’m out.

The developer made a clear choice to leave the gameplay almost completely intact. 20 years ago I loved the gameplay. Today, it’s just too rudimentary for me.

I’ll try again in a few months but I’m kind of surprised and deflated that I didn’t fall for this the way some of you have. God I really wanted to love this game.

Let's get back on track before "Thor" chimes in...

I'm looking forward to finally sitting down with this tonight, hopefully my performance at 1080p will be "average of 60" with mix of high/med settings

As long as it's ok performance-wise, off to the Dark Brotherhood I must go (y)

Kids in Africa be like "what is type 1 and type 2? Does he have diabetes?"
At least we have enough sugar in America for both types.... In b4 the s0ap🤣

The screenshots in this group have enticed me enough to jump back into this game. I'm succumbing to peer pressure.

I low-key love how they're like "Elder Scrolls 6? LOL - here's UE5 Elder Scrolls 4". :D.

I won't be getting it anytime soon. I have the original. Original is fine. Sounds like there are some performance kinks to work out anyways.
