Elden Ring (From Software RPG)

Have never played any souls game but just bought this game+dlc

My friends have all played before and needless to say are miles ahead of me :p

Do any [H] members want to help out with items and such so I can join them in DLC

Sorry if posts like this aren't allowed. Please admonish me if that's the case.

When I did a marathon run with Elden ring I twisted my left knee two years ago after getting up from my chair then going to the hallway it felt screwed up. Then I developed water under the knee for a week not fun. After that Elden Ring was kinda shelved. Had to get a needle to the knee to get rid of excess fluid.

Thanks for sharing.

Ugh… I think I allowed myself to get pulled back in. So if I were to purchase the DLC, how do I start it? Google is my friend? Alright then. Damn…

You have to have beaten Radahn and Mohg. Then you interact with the cocoon in Mohg's room.

Oh boy you are in for a wild ride.

Take your time, try out different weapons, don't expect the game to tell you anything: google any question or walk through you want without shame.

that's what people should do...I hate co-op/summoning but have no issue with people Googling for help...too many people jump into co-op or summoning etc at the first sign of trouble...be patient, search for different ways to beat an enemy- maybe a new weapon...too many people die once to a boss and give up

you should have said: "I used to be an adventurer like you...then I took an arrow in the knee"

Tell me about it, this game is nuts.

Already died more times than I can remember in one day.

Trying to just get through the bosses needed to get to DLC. I'm on godrick now :p

When a game becomes repetitive and frustrating… is it a game… is it fun?
It is why I never could get into souls games. I don't not enjoy anvil dick myself for hours on one boss. That said people should of expected the DLC to be tough.

Yes, it is still fun for some of us. Speaking as a top end raider in several mmorpgs over the years. This sounds right up my alley...think I'll buy elden ring once a nice sale hits and the same goes for the DLC!

to each his own...for me most games are too easy...which makes something like Elden Ring (From Software games in general) stand out...which is one of the reasons I love their games...it's not just the difficulty/challenge but the overall level design, enemy design, art style, combat, weapon/armor variety etc...there truly is nothing like it in gaming...a From Software Souls-type game is an event...and the player numbers show that there a ton of players that enjoy it

I don't understand what the goal is with these bosses in the DLC.

Every main-game boss has been abhorrent in my personal experience. Death knight has been the most fun, and in my opinion, the best fight in this DLC so far.

This entire DLC feels like an "Is it my turn yet?" DLC, and it sucks.

This DLC is incredible, I love it, but these boss fights are spastic, and especially with Bayle I'm seeing incomprehensible attack combos that flood and cover your entire screen in fire and rock, while he's able to immediately follow any AOE attack he does with a 2-3 piece swipe/biting combo, as well as immediately breathing fire down onto the ground causing yet another AOD to be present while trying to punish him. To be genuinely safe during the fight, you're best hitting him ONCE then getting ready to dodge another minute of attack sequences.

I want difficulty as much as the next guy, but this just doesn't rub me right when it comes down to it. The combos are far too lengthy to actually reward you with a sufficient punishment window, but that's an entirely different issue, as well as his health being well over 100,000.

You can argue that DS3 was easy, but obviously that's not a general consensus considering there's a selection of hard bosses that game has to offer. Champion Gundyr, Nameless King, Demon Prince, Sister Friede, Midir, Gael, Pontiff, they all have two things in common: 1. They're hard, 2. They're fair, yet concise with their attack combos. Midir isn't covering my entire screen with AOE attacks every second of the fight, Demon Prince isn't constantly shooting their explosive trails at me, covering my screen, pontiff is doing combos that stretch to 9 attacks with no cooldown.

If they were to just have bosses SLOW down a little bit, this DLC would be much more enjoyable in my opinion, and if that means it's sacrificing some difficulty by not having my entire screen covered in warheads, then I guess I'm asking to make the game easier, if you dig into posts like this to an abnormal extent. I genuinely feel that we're going into a direction where movement will have to be changed in the next fromsoft soulslike title, we're getting TOO fast for the old school dark souls movement formula.

I hope From Sofware doesn't nerf the difficulty in a future patch...the first Doom Eternal DLC was ridiculously difficult at launch but id Software later nerfed it
That sucks... I've yet to play doom eternal but they should have added a different mode, not nerfed it . I just bought the base game recently!

From Software usually doesn't nerf bosses in terms of difficulty but I remember they did do it once with Dark Souls 3...it wasn't a boss but one of those flying ranged regular enemies who would rain down a ton of magic missiles...they patched it so it didn't fire so many magic projectiles at one time

At present, there are a whopping 19,000 plus reviews for Shadow of the Erdtree on Steam, and the combined score is 62% - mixed.

I’ll bet that From will be surprised by that. And don’t say they don’t care because they do.

Honestly, I’m kind of surprised, even though I ‘gave up on the game’ after 150 hrs (lol) for the same reason most people aren’t giving the DLC a higher score (because of the unrewarding frustration).

I’m going to buy the DLC anyway, because I got sucked back in. LOL. But I’ll likely be ripping my hair out and cursing at my monitor.

I had a heart attack last year too. This DLC might literally kill me. Farewell forever, my friends!

Same. The challenge is fun for me. There are games that can easily be breezed through ... and sometimes I play those, too. These types of games serve a very specific purpose.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree currently has a 'Mixed' status on Steam, with many of the negative reviews complaining that the bosses are too hard

People are stupid and want to ruin things for others that actually enjoy the difficulty. The entire point of these games is the difficulty.

I just don't want Fromsoft to keep cranking the difficulty higher and higher just to appease the git gud crowd. I feel like the difficulty was perfect in something like Dark Souls 3. Great mix of challenging, fun, and fair.

The bosses in this DLC (at least the first few that I fought) definitely feel overtuned. Much more so than the base game bosses.

Many of the negative reviews being written in the Steam reviews section are clearly being written by people who love the game and have spent hundreds of hours playing it.

Saying that these gamers are ‘stupid’ and that they want to ‘ruin things for others’ is actually pretty weak.

Also, is the point of these games truly the difficulty?

I’ve played games that are actually much more difficult than Elden Ring or Dark Souls - but were those games more fun? No they weren’t. It wasn’t the difficulty that elevated my experience in Elden Ring or Dark Souls, but rather the challenge, and the fairness of that challenge. So many times when I finally beat a Dark Souls boss, I genuinely felt that I had earned that victory because the game forced me to learn. This formula is clearly very difficult to duplicate, since so few developers actually pull it off. It’s not just a matter of making a game difficult (any developer can easily do that) - it’s a matter of making a game difficult AND rewarding.

What I’m seeing in many of the user reviews is the notion that although the boss fights are extremely difficult, they’re just not that rewarding.

This seems like a bit of an unexpected miss-step from From (sorry).

I just bought the DLC anyway, so whatever.

You better finish the game soon since you're the Dark Souls master prepatch. Otherwise From software will be disappointed.

I wish I could play now...I'm in the middle of upgrading so want to wait until I either get the new Zen 5 9800X3D or a new 7800X3D build...I first thought I was going to build a new 7800X3D system but then changed my mind and decided to wait for Zen 5...every week I change my mind (Zen 4 vs Zen 5)

From Software usually doesn't nerf difficulty so I'm hoping the same applies with Elden Ring...the only patch is the 'git good' patch

I don't think there's any reason to wait unless you disassembled your gaming computer.

Life’s too short to wait. Trust me, it is.

Remember folks, it's important to take a bathroom break every once in a while while exploring the land of shadow.

God, this game… I spent the entire day trying to do what needs to be done just to start the DLC… but I got sidetracked by a side boss and never even came close. My days off are super precious and I have about a thousand things I want to do, but there it is, me spending the entire damned day just wandering about in Elden Ring.

Do I really want to start this DLC? This game is crack.

Seems like most people complaining about the difficulty are playing the game without using spirit ashes and the new revered spirit ashes.

"I'm going to complain about the difficulty because I refuse to use all the tools the game gives me since I'm a 'purist' idiot."

Read alot about the concerns and I've spent a few days in "dad time" playing. For those who don't know "dad time" is sitting down to play, but really only getting 10 minutes of playtime per hour broken up in 60-90 seconds increments during the hour because kids.

Decisions have consequences, but at least they're living proof I've had sex at least 5 times in my life.

Anyhoo... I've found three maps and killed a handful of bosses, dragons, and ransom stuff. Not spoiling anything.

Level 200 Unga-Bunga... first off... my Ungas and Bungas just don't UngaBunga like they used to. I learned getting the death peanuts and consuming them at the camps fixes this. I've hunted lots of death peanuts on Torrent. Ungas and Bungas working closer to what was expected, but not bungaing as hard as original. I think this is great because it was preposterous that I could run into a room, buff a few times, and smash an aircraft-carrier sized boss in the toe to death in one shot. Loving the renewed challenge.

Also "DLC" is a lie. This is a full game. It's absurd in all the best ways possible. The DLC gauntlet has been thrown.

Folks really should consider leveling to an appropriate spot before coming here. They should also use the in-game growth systems. Finally, use all of your tools and put your pride in a box. Yeah, some maniacs can do it, but that's because they're freaks of nature... us ordinary folks - do everything you need to survive and win.

This has been a spectacular experience for me so far. I hope they don't nerf it at all... except for that jerky in the gaol right at the start. What a butt head he was. He unga-bungad harder than I did and it made me sad.
