Definitely backed. I was a fan of Suikoden back in the PS1 era and loved the combination of both large and small scale battles - I don't remember if I played all of them but I recall finishing those I did with the "perfect" ending which required recruiting all 108 recruitable characters! I can remember vaguely that in one of the games, an early, favored companion ends up dying in very heroic way and in most cases usually "stays" dead - there are even a few red herrings in the gameplay along the way. However, if you manage to recruit all 108 characters (some of which being quite difficult like getting enemy officers to change sides, beating an overpowered boss etc) it was possible to revive them!

Oh by the way - this project is an absolutely perfect example of the differing costs between releasing on consoles and PC. The devs (even more impressive given they're Japanese and until relatively many were reluctant to release on PC - thanks is owed to Steam for providing the tech to fix this!) mention that they can't offer beta keys for consoles because of the cost, that Steam doesn't nickle-and-dime them with every key issued or update the way consoles do etc. They also promised they would NOT engage in any sort of store exclusivity, so I'm certainly more confident to move forward. I also have to give them credit for NOT initally supporting the Switch (instead hoping for a "Switch 2 / Pro" revision in the next year or two) and rightly admitting that to do so would mean essentially having to create 2 versions of the game, one for much lower-grade hardware ; this resulted in the kind of debacle we saw with Bloodstained Ritual of the Night where the Switch version had massive problems and delayed work on the rest of the game's content updates / DLC.

Only thing I request of those that backed and have some interest in it, please make a comment requesting Linux support now, while crowdfunding is still ongoing. They're using Unity as the underlying engine and it supports Linux, so hopefully if the devs learn that enough of the the current backer and future potential buyers are interested, they can hire Linux related specialists to their team early on - if they need a stretch goal, that's fine too. This only works if we show them there's interest, though.

Edit: One thing that is a bit disappointed - maybe I missed it, but I don't see any option for a digital PC copy w/ beta? Given that PC users are likely to get a physical edition that includes a game box + a code to redeem, it seems like there should be an option for digital + beta. Especially considering that many of the "collector's edition" kinda stuff isn't by default in the game box, but instead requires a greater investment (CD, artbook, vinyl, T-shirt etc)

Edit2: Apparently they updated things so that now digital copies get the beta as well!

Looks really good can't believe it was funded so quickly! I almost enjoyed suikoden more than ff7! I never got the chance to play the sequel but I did hear it's really good

At the time I write this there are 48 hours left in the KS backing period! Tons of stretch goals have been knocked down, and we're up to 3.8 Million! There's still a bit to go however, so it would be awesome if we could eclipse the final goal ASAP. Anyone who has not pledged or wants to upgrade their pledge, there are tons of options now including upgrades and formerly sold out stuff returned .

Note that the basic game key is available for $38-ish and the rest of the extras continue to be either special collectors items or rare custom (ie your X in the game kinda things) elements, so don't worry that you won't be getting all the game content! Fans of Suikoden or JRPGs, on PC , current consoles, or next-gen ones, this seems to be a worthy project!

That means ALL Stretch goals have been achieved! Great work everyone

***IMPORTANT*** - One of the last secret 4.5M stretch goals was for a "companion game" made by Natsume-Atari that will be a "town-builder, maybe with combat" introducing some of the Eiyuden Chronicles heroes long before the main game arrives. Unfortunately, the developers posted that thanks to the Console Platform holders who will demand an additional 30% UP FRONT in order to get keys to give backers this "free" game, they ask that anyone who wants the companion game raise their pledge by $7 (compared to the $15-20 that it will likely cost for a la carte purchases when sold separately). Note that like the EC devs have mentioned many times, Steam does NOT do this kind of garbage and is much friendlier to players and developers alike; I'll have to see if they'll still be asking for PC version users to pay the additional $7 or not. I personally don't think PC / Steam users should have to pay an additional $7 to essentially subsidize an exploitative practice on behalf of Console platforms, but I'd rather just pay it in the hopes the devs will have a little extra buffer to look into supporting Linux and whatnot.

Since this was unveiled so late, its likely the devs will find a way to allow backers to add a certain amount of extra cash, either for the companion game or for other addons.
