We've been here before, in 1999-2005 with home custom builders overwhelmingly choosing AMD, but OEM's barely used them due to Intel illegally locking them out.

Hoping for better financial results this time

Given Intel's supply issues, I think we will.

Yes the last AMD go round Intel was dirty sure... but they also had a ton of supply they where able to massively mark down and still turn a profit. So I would say locking AMD out of OEM machines was a 2 punch. Sure they played some dirty pool... but they also sold a handful of CPUs to major OEMs at a price point AMD of the day couldn't hit.

This time Intel hopefully will have harder time with back room dirty pool and with the strength of third party fabs and easier to fab designs... should be able to hang price wise even if Intel gets their Fab shit together.

From what we have seen so far it seems all Intel is capable of really doing right now is PR FUD scatter shot... and sad review embargo games.

you're gonna like it :)

if you don't have a motherboard yet check out MSI B450 Tomahawk Max (make sure it's the Max, not the un-Max version that now sells for less) ... excellent board

Thanks, I am hoping I will! I've also got a motherboard on order, I ended up going with the Asus Crosshair VII Hero so I should be all set!

I think 2020 might actually be the icing on the cake if Zen3 is 18-20% faster than Zen2 like early samples have demonstrated (supposedly) and if Intel continues to have supply issues. That would be another 18-20% increase in back to back years which is pretty exciting.

Don't understand why 3800X is outselling 3700X.

The 3800x had larger discounts (price gap was smaller around $30) during the holiday sale season since Black Friday combined with an extra game in the bundle offer (if you resold this the effective price between the 3800x and 3700x would be the same almost). This changes the value dynamics compared to their actual MSRPs (which was a $70 price difference).

This was even more extreme in Canada. The lowest sale price on the 3800x was lower than that of 3700x. The 3600x was also cheaper than the 3600. So there was no reason to buy either the 3700x or 3600.

As a side note I always feel reviewers should not make value prepositions based of launch MSRPs due how street prices are actually much more fluid. Instead value comments should be more relative.

2700X here as well. Got it in April right before the Zen 2 launch and was intending on upgrading to Zen 2 when I moved overseas and got settled in later last year (damn 2019 is last year now), but the 2700X is playing my games just fine on my 3440x1440 120hz display and that's mostly what I use it for, so pretty sure I'll hold out until I see 3700X or 3800X deals similar in price to where the 2700X deals are right now.

Same here, except I just got my 2700x system up and running Monday of last year (that'll take some getting used to). Once Zen2 prices come down, I'll probably upgrade.

Built my first 2700x system October 2018 and just purchased another 2700x to build a new VR machine for the living room. Can't beat the processing power for $158 shipped.

Yes, for the first time in a long time I can say that my next PC build is strongly leaning towards AMD.

I think I've stumbled on Intel's next marketing campaign...comparing not the performance, but model numbers!

Intel: We have the 10980XE. AMD only has a 3970X. We're 7,010 better! Buy ours! (please? I got kids to feed.)

Ditto.

- Built a system with a Ryzen 5 1600x for my stepson in 2017.
- Built a system with a Ryzen 5 2400G for my Fiance last year.
- Upgraded my own system to a Threadripper 3960x this year :)

Yeah, I have a 1600, 1700 and 2600 system, all overclocked and fast. :)

This...I have a 3800X because...1). I'm not concerned about the extra TDP 2). The extra game included (which I sold). 3). The difference was $30 during the holidays. For an extra $10 after selling the game, I picked up some extra clocks.

At regular price, I'd buy a 3700x all day.

Side note: The best bang for the buck is clearly the 2700(x) right now. $149 I saw for the 2700 at Newegg and the 2700X has been $159 with a game.

I just went with a Ryzen 9 3900X, and it makes sense how popular these are becoming.

Though I personally think the real bargains come from prices falling so quickly on older/used Intel systems. You can get refurbished OEM systems using Sandy-Bridge and newer for as low as $150 and that is great for doing upgrades for people who are cheap and still clinging to older office systems from the Core2 era or earlier.

I have a 3600X in my second rig and also I bought a 3700X for my brother (gave him my old computer, which was still very good).

No doubt, people are excited to get lots of cores for an affordable price.

AMD will have to make some progress on laptops though, it is very hard to find decent AMD laptops, Intel dominates there.

They should add electrolytes.
