I just had my gig connection installed the other day when I connect my PC directly to the modem I can get 850-950 down consistently when connect my PC from my router I can only seem to get 700-800 down. I also have the latest firmware installed and have hardware offload enabled. Without HWoffload enabled I can only get 300-350 is there any other tweeks I can make to increase my throughput.

How are you connected - Copper or is it Fiber?

I believe it's known that the ERX is the lower version, and the ERL is the go to for consistent gigabit speeds. Also, it is recommended to use hardware offloading, IIRC.

i didn't think the ERX had hw offload....

it was my understanding that the ERX actually had a beefier cpu than the ERL, but the ERL had the hw offload which made it faster in certain circumstances...

goodcooper - Thanks for your input and adding to the discussion.

As of v1.8.5 (13JUN2016) HW NAT offloading was delivered to the ERX: https://community.ubnt.com/t5/EdgeM...geRouter-software-release-v1-8-5/ba-p/1591710

I believe with HW offloading enabled on the ERX though it brings constraints for QoS and DPI, but that may not be relevant to Jay88

[Release Notes v1.8.5]
Changelog
Changes since v1.8.0
New features

A few things to note:
  • If the new "HW NAT" offload feature for ER-X is also enabled, traffic to which HW NAT is applied is handled by the hardware directly and therefore Traffic Analysis/DPI cannot see such traffic.
  • Also, similar to the offload features for the older platforms, certain traffic is not eligible for offload, e.g., traffic that requires QoS policy cannot be offloaded.
  • This means that on the ER-X platform when both Traffic Analysis/DPI and HW NAT offload are enabled, it is possible for some traffic to be seen in Traffic Analysis/DPI but not others, e.g., traffic requiring QoS cannot be offloaded and therefore can be seen by Traffic Analysis/DPI.

I have a copper connection and I am not running any additional services such as QoS or DPI.

The UBNT stuff seems to be widely inconsistent with performance on gigabit. I have been reading their forums trying to decide on the best router to buy and there are threads all over the place of performance problems with different models, and different firmwares. Sometimes they will issue a firmware that fixes speed problems only to break it again in the next release. It is kind of concerning.

Try a different channel 1 or 6? What other APs are around you and what channel are they on?
