Microsoft ended 2017 with yet another video demonstrating how its Edge browser fares against the competition in terms of battery life. The company has not elaborated on its testing methodology, but if it is to be believed, Edge can stream video significantly longer than both Chrome and Firefox.

The test was conducted by streaming one video across all three browsers on identical devices until the battery died. According to Microsoft's results, Edge laster 63 percent longer than Firefox and 19 percent longer than Chrome. In terms of time, Edge managed to go 16 hours and 8 minutes, while Firefox came in at 9 hours and 52 minutes. Chrome, meanwhile, hit 13 hours and 31 minutes.

To believe a M$ advertisement, or not to believe? Not even a question worth asking.

Well sure it faster. Once you forgo anything remotely needed to make your software secure, it is going to chew up more CPU time. :)

And sheesh, just forget about error checking, it uses too much CPU time as well.

I use Edge quite a bit on my Surface Pro 3 mostly because it works far better with the on-screen keyboard than chrome does. Chrome quite often does many wonky things when I try to type with the on-screen keyboard. When docked and using a keyboard and mouse I stick to Chrome.

Yea but the downside with using Edge for web browsing is that you're using Edge for web browsing.

Only use edge when im getting MS reward points for free amazon gift cards. 10 mins of time on edge and then switch to Firefox quantum or Chrome. The browser is slower than anything else and is greatly slowed by ads on the page.

I dont use Edge as my daily because Im too heavily invested in the Google ecosystem, but I can say without a doubt that with my typical browsing tasks it is faster. It feels quicker and smoother then Chrome on any computer Ive used it on.

I specifically load up Edge when I keep a Facebook window open because of how insanely undeniably slow Chrome gets when you've had that particular tab open for a while.

Doesn't use battery power? No shit. If it does nothing it obviously uses no battery power.
