In what is becoming a ritual of sorts, Microsoft released another video this week demonstrating how Edge is better than Chrome -- in battery life, at least. Again, the setup comprises three Surface Books streaming video: Edge managed 14 hours and 20 minutes, while Chrome and Firefox managed 12 hours and 32 minutes and 7 hours and 15 minutes, respectively.

"This experiment showed that battery life on a PC running Microsoft Edge lasts 98 percent longer than Mozilla Firefox and 14 percent longer than Google Chrome," Microsoft says on its YouTube channel. For unknown reasons, the devices last about two hours less than when Microsoft tested the three browsers on a Surface Book running the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update this January.

Just saying...

Anyone around here use edge? Any real opinions on it with long term use?

I've had it accidentally open on me a few times...

Reliable and quick, now theres a thing.
If only.

I use it occasionally, when I have issues with ie 11, which I still prefer. my roommate uses it, used to use chrome but cant be bothered to reinstall it since edge works fine.

I use it...to install Firefox or Chrome. I can't say I give a shit what they say about battery life as I don't give a crap about battery life on a laptop. All of mine run long enough that getting to a power source is never a question. Sorry I'm unwilling to tolerate internet explorer (I don't give a crap what they rebrand it as) on my machine.

If you have decent internet for 12 and a half hours... I think the number of times you wouldn't have a power socket near by for at least 20 min is exactly zero.

So who cares. Edge still sucks, MS is still the asshole company that attempted to close source Internet standards. I wouldn't use Edge if MS claimed it used no power at all.

Now do it on a platform where the os and potentially the hardware cannot cheat detect what software is being used and adjust the power options.

Too bad it fails on the most important metric: Not being Edge.

I kind of miss Internet Explorer 6. I wonder if it will run on Win 10.

Who gives a shit. Go do a search on Bing. None of the shit you are looking for ever populates. the search engine is horrible. It's disgusting.

I used Edge for a few days at work due to some technical difficulties but I couldn't get passed that feeling of being fucked in the ass.

Been using EDGE the past for weeks for streaming videos, chrome has decided to tear on all videos I watch.

Haven't used anything but FF for a decade. It works well with both Windows7 and Mint so why not.

Edge is considerably superior in my experience that what is the common banter in threads like this. Microsoft did itself no favors with the pop ups and other coercive means it's used to get folks on Edge and it looks that they've backfired. Of course the great thing about Windows, even Windows 10, install all the fucking software you want, Edge, Chrome, FF, IE, Opera, I have them all installed on my main systems in case something I need blows up with any of them. The beauty of choice.

I use Windows on touch devices a lot, Edge works way better there than the alternatives, and basic extensions are there like uBlock. The UI in Edge is significantly more responsive especially with Windows precision touchpads though that support is coming to Chrome.

All you had to really do is put a period on your post. We would of known you were going to say a MS product is superior and the best. Broken record. Saves you time.

Microsoft did itself no favors alienating the majority of windows users still on Windows 7/8.1 making Edge W10 exclusive. I mean FFS even if you aren't going to support Linux or MacOS at least support your own operating systems - the entrenched leaders Chrome/FF were already there!

"But but in our infinite arrogance we just assumed everyone would rush to Windows 10 overnight because with inking and cortada it's so amazing".

I don't care what their own excuses are. The moment they decided to abandon windows phone - and by extension nullify the whole UWP/app store nonsense on W10, they shouldve retrenched and built a proper Win32 Edge, free of all the UWP/WinRT10 app crap code that makes it freeze way too often and makes plugins such a headache.

But I didn't say that. Before making these kinds of accusations, have you tried FF, Chrome, IE, Edge and Opera with a Windows 10 device with a precision trackpad or touchscreen?

It's constantly pointed out that I'm not a typical PC users. I get that. They don't extensively test five different browsers this way. If I am what you think is a broken record, I put in a lot of hours getting there.

Edge is built on UWP and that doesn't exist in prior versions of Windows. That's why the UI is particularly responsive compared to Win32 apps.

Hours that are to the same point every time. Not my time, so no big deal. Only 1 I have not tried and that is Opera. Chrome works great so it's the one I go with right now.

Nope. I pointed to VERY specific details. Chrome has as huge advantage in cross-platform and extension support. I've never said otherwise. If you've not used Windows 10 with a precision touchpad of touch device then why even argue with me over something you're not using?

Because the first words on your post is pro windows programs. Does not matter if edge was the worst browser in the history of all browsers. It's just what you do. Maybe if you actually started out by comparing them instead. Just a thought.
Touchpad? My laptop has one, but I use a mouse.

Again, not what I said. I said that Edge is considerably superior to the experience of those who don't use it.

Once again you're blasting me over something you don't use. Did I tell someone who is happy with Chrome or FF or Opera not to use them? Nope. I said I've used most major Windows compatible browsers extensively under conditions you don't and somehow that's unconditional praise of Microsoft?

If someone doesn't like something fair enough. Blasting a product you don't use on hardware you don't use, that's not got a fuck to do with Microsoft. That's going to draw honest disagreements especially in a hardware enthusiasts forum.

Just constructive criticism. I don't believe or even regard your posts as anything but crap since it will be biased to MS.
I just thought it might help a bit if you changed it up a bit. extensively or not, your answer is the same in every instance. Just trying to help. :)

I have used the touch pad on my laptop. It worked great with chrome.

And that's fine except why criticize something so harshly you don't use? I have an Oculus Rift setup with three cameras. So you perfectly except all of the so called "constructive criticism" from folks that have never touched PC VR? Of course not. Be a little more thoughtful about it.

No, I don't accept it. People have opinions, most are biased toward 1 side. I am glad that [H] testers are not like that.

Everyone has their biases regardless of acknowledgement. I've always acknowledged that when it comes to PCs I believe Windows is the best because of its ecosystem. Windows has MANY problems but support of the latest and greatest in the PC world isn't one them.

So past that, Windows 10. And I've analyzed that one to death. Telemetry, spyware, forced updates and the hybrid UI. Ok, I'll install whatever someone says is the real solution, trying to be free of bias, something blows up and then "Who cares?" I just bought a Corsair K95 Platinum. Windows 10/8.1/7 and hell even Vista compatible from their website. The moment I mention anything about that keyboard in a Linux forum "MICROSOFT SHILL!" The amount of "MICROSOFT SHILL!" I got last summer when trying to get an HTC Vive working under Linux. Holly fuck. And that's technically supported by Valve. Unlike the Rift. I like Windows 10 because it supports all that I've ever done with prior Windows versions except Windows Media Center and 2 in 1s better than prior Windows versions. And high and mixed DPI monitors.

So yeah, I have my biases like everyone. But don't make it out to be because everyone is stubborn and hates something. I literally tried something that technically was supported under Linux at least in beta, not one other Linux user around here even said they tried, but I was paid and bought for by Microsoft because of a product that was developed by HTC and Valve. A company that Linux folks actually tend to praise these days.

Hell, use you Rift under Linux if that works better for you than Windows. If that becomes problematic and doesn't work then don't say it's because I'm biased.

I heard Bing is still the best for porn video search.
