eBay Links Allowed Trial Period

Kyle, just a thought, would you want to keep this to individuals posting their items alone, or could this also work as a "Hot Deals On Ebay" subforum? Or could there be a subforum in FS/FT for ebay, and an additional subforum in Hot Deals?

This user probably blocks the ads.

/shameonuser.

Mabye so, IF there was a guarantee those ad servers ran completely clean, which Kyle, as great as he is with this forum and site, cannot do, he is not in charge of those, and therefore cannot do that.

I haven't really checked which/where they are coming from, but I do know Google will not police their own ad servers as needed....so what is a user to do? Allow the drive by downloads, bullshit flash ads that do nothing for the site really, because nobody follows a link that annoys them, period.

At this point...how 'bout we all STFU, and chuck some money toward Kyle for premium membership so he doesn't have to resort to this? Yes times is [H] right now....but how much worse would it be, if our favorite place to trust disappeared?

Kyle, you will see my membership after work this Friday, please reconsider the ebay thing, I really don't mind people showing that they are great ebay traders, as that is just another form of proving yourself like Heatware. But we all know, most place ads here BECAUSE we don't want to there, for various reasons.

Sorry about the book here, it's just that people that whine about ad blockers have only half the argument, and fail to see that it doesn't matter if that's the only mode of income sites have, if it harms their readership.
We've all seen the total lack of responsibility from ad firms regarding this, and the lack of action as well, until this changes, long live NoScript, and ABP! I'd rather hand cash to an honest person trying to do the right thing, than get freebies from a douche.

Your ideas are noted.

Kyle, the mods, and every other user:

I think this is a swell idea. If times are hard for the forum and eBay allows giving out commission to the forum, it's a great route. As I've read, all users posting eBay threads still have to follow all the other rules like normal--basically being a good citizen of [H].

I don't think it is appropriate to open-fire on the mods here. If you follow the easy rules that they have set, nobody would have any problems. I wish some of the users here would be more open-minded to these things.

My best recommendation would be making a sub-forum for eBay things as suggested before. If a user doesn't like eBay, then they would never visit that sub-forum and stick to the normal FS/FT/WTB forum. If someone wants to be involved in an auction for items they are looking for, then there will be the eBay sub-forum.

I would also gladly donate money to keep this forum running regardless of the eBay decision. I pay a premium membership fee at another forum (for musicians) and I'm not opposed to it.

My $0.02

I say since everyone is wanting to donate the cash. Then set up a paypal account and a donate button on the page. That way people that don't want ebay can give some cash and also people can support [H] then also.

Perhaps make a list under the donation button and have the people who donated and how much?

Thanks, but we are not a charity and do not accept donations. We will find a good business model that will work within our systems here.

I got a test thread up, wasn't sure how to do the links. Maybe a quick tips/rules/etc sticky is in order but I'm willing to read posts on it.

Anyone that bashes my post is gonna get flagged.

You title is now listed as I asked. "Ebay:" must be at the front of the link.

Yeash. I'm keeping an open mind on this but this sounds pretty scary.

On an interesting brightside note.

I've been anti-ebay feedback because they have a policy where you cant contact a an ebay member unless its regarding a current auction therefore making ebay feedback posting on a forum semi-worthless. However If members post an ebay auction this would resolve that issue.

Any way to "block/hide" ebay related threads under someones CP?

edit : any of the Ebay threads/users are going on my ignore list for the time being....

I really think this is a good idea... I just sold my set of monitors on eBay and I really wish I could have posted a link to the eBay auction here.

So I am for it :D

I'm all up for Ebay HOT DEALS section.
Posting ebay links in your FS thread, I don't care much for that.

I was just asking a honest question. I wasn't being smart, inconsiderate or rude, just trying to make a suggestion... I really like the forums and visit them almost daily. I'll stay out of the politics from now on. Sorry...

And I gave you an honest answer.

I really cannot comprehend the sheer amount of hate towards ebay threads. What's so hard about not clicking a post that says eBay?

This is sad that you would go this low. Knowing how bad most of the people here hate ebay, and now you turn your back on the very same people that made this forum what it is today, and for what? The almighty dollar.

lol... you have only been here 9 months. I dont think you were really involved in making this forum what it is today (nor was i). quit your crying.. it will help people sell their stuff and also help bring in revenue for [H]. Some people will find anything to whine about.

eBay win and we lose.

my bad, i re-read what you said so i edit my original post.

Anyway, so if anything goes bad in a eBay deal, so [H] is not going to be responsible for it? Since you guys are promoting eBay, i was wondering how does that work.

I know it says no Buy It Now, but what if it's an auction that starts at $0.01-$0.99, but has a buy it now feature with it?

I can cite examples if that doesn't make sense. I assume the "NO BUY IT NOW" means ebay posts that are strictly buy it now only

Well I'd imagine if something goes wrong with an eBay deal, then the person at fault gets bad reputation marks for eBay and on their heatware if they post it. And the [H] mods handle bad transactions like normal. Don't forget that everything is still backed with Paypal. Basically being a bad seller and listing an eBay link could ultimately get you in double trouble because you lose heatware, eBay, and [H] reputation.

We are not promoting ebay and in no way are involved in anything you purchase on ebay. Links you find here will be placed by the community. Your question is pretty funny though.

It is either and auction or not. If it is an auction with BIN, that is fine with me. But we will not be allowing store links. This is for auction items.

Other than the forums making money, stuff on eBay sells for more.

I'm guessing people who usually give good deals might start jacking up their prices, etc.

Oh well.

I don't really see the big deal. I much prefer selling on the forums than eBay anyway, but I don't think the world will come crashing down if people link their auctions in the forums, especially since the threads are tagged. Some people are just more comfortable selling on eBay where they pretend to protect sellers with their policies. If the [H] can make a few extra bucks and people have more options in how they sell stuff on the forums, what's the harm?

There is absolutely no protection as a Seller on eBay. If the buyer file a complaint (such as item as not describe) within 45 days of the purchase then they will automatically win.

I'm all for it.

This is a good opportunity for our members to get more exposure on their eBay items, and for the [H] Forum to generate some income.

I can understand the concerns of some ,but as long as the threads are clearly marked, you will know its an eBay sale thread, and can just pass it up if you want.

Its a win win in my book.

That's not true.

I scored a few inbox intel nic's that retailed for 150+ at stores for less than $50 shipped.

Are you paying to support the site? If not, then put your money where your mouth is. If Kyle needs to do this to help support [H] who are you to flame him for it?

The guy drives a Hummer for christ sake! Do you think hes doing this to support H? lol :p:D

Just for the record, I drive a 6+ year old Hummer with 77,000 miles on it that has been beat to hell off road. Worth less than $17,000.

I don't know what is the big deal is, kyle is the owner, he can do whatever he desires to help maintain the website.
And generally buyers look out for the best deal in their interest, may it be in forums or ebay...

I salute you. The mods are one of the biggest problems on this site and it is well known throughout various forums.

Really? Because I have never had a problem with any of them. I have bought and sold with them, and never gotten an infraction either.

Sorry to be off topic, but I mainly keep to the FST forum, and have not really experienced any of these "problematic" mods

You were "like meh" because you didn't read the [H]ard|Forum rules? Okay...

I couldn't care less if people are allowed to post threads advertising eBay auctions. As long as it helps the site prosper and doesn't cause problems, I'm all for it. I don't know how anyone could be the least bit upset about this, it seems like the [H] crew is doing their best to ensure this doesn't cause problems.

It's only a trial period. If it doesn't work, I'm sure it'll get scrapped.

Probably going to need add some do's and don't's in the trade section rules I got a feeling there's gonna be questions and concerns.

Yes, we will update the rules when we get a feel for what will need to be specifically outlined after this week.
