Servers: WinXP, but they can be migrated to Server2k3 if needed.

Objective: Setup two serves on a simple LAN. Users type in "server01" in the web browser and are then directed to http server #1. Users type in "server02" in the web browser and users are then directed to the http of server #2.

Plan: To setup a local DNS and http server. What is the best way to go? Apache is easy enough to install, but for DNS should I use Server2k3 or some 3rd party application like SimpleDNS or??? I would like to stick with WinXP if possible, but I could do Win2k3, but would rather not.

Thanks

As long as the two machines can see each other one the network, I don't think a DNS server is necessary.

I would agree. Using the server name works for me while I'm behind my router.
