I received my HD580s last year with a custom built amp. I've been having a lot of issues with the pain in my left ear. The inner part of my ear gets really inflamed. I've been using the beyerdynamic dt770 for the past month and i'm having the problem again. I didn't have this with other lower quality headphones. I should mention that i'm using these to play video games and listen to music. Mostly counter strike 1.6. But even when there is no sound playing, as long as I'm wearing them and they have power coming to them, it causes pain. Anyone had any similar issues. I read somewhere that it's because my ear is sensitive to the frequency since these headphones deliver better frequency then others. If this is true, do I have to keep wearing them for my ears to get used to the frequency? or what? please help. Thanks.

Should probably schedule a hearing test. The adminstrator plays tones at different frequency, results will show if you are suffering from damage.

If your inner ear is getting inflamed, that suggests you have another problem.
This is probably making you sensitive.

Go to your Docs for a checkup.

I did like 5 months ago. Everything seemed to be fine. They did that lil noise thing where they put me in a closed booth and performed the tests. It was fine. The problem only happens when i'm wearing high quality headphones such as the HD580 or the DT770. Even the 595 and 650 do the same thing.

Inflammation will have a cause and its unlikely to be noise.
It might be that these headphones put pressure on your ears such that your ear is compressed in place slightly.
Over time this can become irritated if any damage doesnt get enough to time to repair.
Alternatively you may be allergic to the foam surround of the headphones or have some other allergy or infection.

I guess i'm the only one in this boat :( It might not be inflammation, but it's just painful. My HD580s were open headphones. The ones i'm using right now are closed. But I'm sure it's the sound because when my ears are hurting after listening session, putting the headphone speaker even close to my ear where I can hear sound coming off hurts a bit more. Am I really the only one to experience this problem on [H]?

That's an odd situation, to be sure. Did you see an ear, nose and throat specialist? If not, then you really should. They can diagnose things your regular doctor would never find.

Yeah, go to an ENT and stop using your HD580's until you've gone to the doctor.
