Dying Light - zombies, 4-player co-op

I can't see myself going back to this. The story just really put me off and the weapons are all boring as fuck. I also, don't know about you guys, had a lot of trouble fighting Leader type zombies, especially the big hammer welding guys without using a bunch of dumb tactics. I couldn't just navigate a decent straight up like you could in dead island. It gets really annoying especially if you're doing a escort mission.

This game had a lot of shit going for it but just failed hard at some of the basic fun aspects.

I got 30 hours and done.
I'll come back in a year or two, grab all the DLC's and actually play the game at 60fps. That's what I do with most games like this (worked great for GTA 4).

I finished the main game and really don't have much inclination to go back and do New Game + unless a friend buys it and wants to do co-op or something.

The hammer guys were mainly retarded because of the broken mechanics; i.e. you could get hit even if it appeared they hit something overhead and stopped their swing, you could get hit even when you were just outside of their blast radius, etc. The fights were just, sprint up, hit the guy a couple times, then dodge backwards as fast as you fucking could. Don't bother trying to sidestep or run past them because when they swing they can apparently pull a full 180 mid-swing and still hit you. Pretty stupid. Fighting them was never fun and I went out of my way most times to avoid doing it.

The larger guys that rush you were actually easier IMO because you could just sidestep their sprint and smack them in the back repeatedly until they died. They also seemed to have way less health than the hammer guys.

You can kill the hammer guys instantly with some Flammable liquid + molotov.
The explosive throwing weapons also killed them in 1 hit.

Yeah that was the most annoying part its like you could be sitting at bus stop on the other side of the city from one BOOM HAMMER SLAM WTF. Their range on the hammers just didn't make any sense. Its frustanging when you know you're way out of range and it gets you for no particular reason. I never actually found the distance to not get hit and theres no way to really get in a hit and then run away. the timing on the strikes was stupid.

If you mean throwing weapons...maybe once you get the perk that allows you to throw your mains, but throwing stars/knives/whatever don't really do much against them. You'll burn through a dozen or more trying to take them down that way. As for guns...great if you want a dozen runners on you afterwards.

The problem is that fighting them is just a hassle when in a game it should be fun.

I never had a problem with them, or perhaps I am mis-remembering. an upgraded katana strong attack to the head would oneshot them, or worst case do that 2 or 3 times and they were done.

Is any of the DLC worth going back to? I mistakenly started a NG+ and it wiped my save all the way back to the beginning. There is no way I wanna replay that whole game, but I'm curious about the dlc.

That they felt like a hassle instead of a challenge is definitely a problem. I don't recall how early the throwing weapons perk is but I thought it was sooner than the upgraded hammer guys showed up. It just feels odd that, in a game that is already super easy, people want it to be even easier.

I stopped playing around Patch 1.3.
Just reinstalled, newest patch, Catalyst 15.3 Betas, my frame rate has literally doubled since the last time I played.

They did a good job fixing this game up. I can maintain 60+ FPS now. It was impossible to even reach 60 before...

Anybody know what mods were used here?

CA is gone, colors are more balanced. The screenshot is from 1.3 or 1.4 so I'm not even sure if it's possible anymore. SweetFX maybe? Google isn't giving me a source.
The 2nd picture looks so much better than vanilla.

http://www.nexusmods.com/dyinglight/mods/110/

SweetFX does look a lot better, but it still doesn't seem able to remove the CA even though there is an option for it.

The downside to using that mod too is that you can't play coop, even if they're using it at the same time.

To remove CA you need to modify the postprocess files.
The old mod manager will do it, but I don't know if it works with 1.5 anymore. The creator of the EVG mod did it, you just have to take the files from his Data3.pak.

All of the SweetFX files on the official site were designed with CA enabled, so disabling CA messes up all the colors. If you disable CA you will need to find some SweetFX settings that you like since the game turns blue.

Don't care about coop, I can't play online anyway.

Have you tried unparking the cores on your I7?

Also, alt-tabbing out and in again fixes the funky vsync behavior.
I notice with VSYNC off and in window mode allows for the best performance. This game maxed out @ 1440P is perfectly playable. I average around 35-60FPS at all times. Even 35 is perfectly fine for me. This with a [email protected], 16GB ram and 290 @1000/1300

Bumping this thread for joy!

I bought this last week when it was on sale, finally. The game is really awesome! I accidentally played for 11 hours straight the other night when, oh crap, is that the sun rising? I still have to go to work today! So much better than Dead Island, I can't even describe it. It has such a good balance of making you think whether or not it's better to run or stand and fight. All the agility and combat mechanics are satisfying and fun. Running around doing missions at night is such a great experience. Game looks and runs amazingly on a Titan X at 1440p with all in-game settings maxed and view distance modified past max of 2.60 to 4.00, getting 70 FPS average while using about 5GB of VRAM.

I have not been so engrossed in a game since Dark Souls. I'm now disappointed in myself for not picking this up sooner! I actually knew I was going to be in for a treat when I heard the '80s-style horror movie music at the main menu.

Dying Light, as of right now (June 27, 2015), is my personal sleeper hit of the year.

I loved every minute of this game.

I can still remember my first outing, and then making it back to the Tower just as the sky was growing dark. I loved the way the stairs were missing, and how you had to leap up to safety, and those two guys standing there with machine guns, protecting the 'entrance'.

Returning to the Tower after being out all day, I felt a genuine sense of relief, and really didn't want to have to go back outside again.

I'm a big atmosphere guy, and for me this game was just dripping with atmosphere. Those of you who missed this game really missed something special, IMO. Consider it during the next Winter Sale at Steam.

Yes!

Excellent post!

So SweetFX finally figured out how to remove the chromatic aberration? Last version I used made everything look much better, but was still unable to remove it.

yeah.. vanilla isnt great, but the modded one has even more chromatic aberration..

I would have to see it in motion because the static screenshots don't do any justice to the visuals of this game. Static screenshots make the chromatic aberration look worse than it really is, for example. I also think that aerial shot is exaggerating the color overlay. It doesn't look that desaturated to me while playing the game.

I can dig the look the designers were going for, but I also understand why people would want to change the look to their preference. The PC version gives us that power, so why not use it?

Dying Light: The Following trailer...

The new map is set to be the same size as all of Dying Light‘s maps combined, and to aid in your traversal of this gargantuan wilderness, you’ll be able to customize and upgrade a dirt buggy– which also has its own skill tree...Techland also promised a new feature where you’ll have to choose your own path through the missions to eventually earn the trust of the locals and the cultists...

Very nice! An actual game expansion after some disappointing DLC has been release for this game. Although I'd be more excited if we had a release date. I hope a sequel has been in the works, as well.

I beat the game on Xbox One and had a blast but am really thinking of picking it up again on PC. Maybe I should wait for the new DLC to drop.

Thoughts?

Funny, I have been thinking about picking up the XBONE and/or PS4 version since I'm an achievement whore with games I really like .

If your sig contains your current PC, then the VRAM on the 780 might be an issue. It pushes 5GB at 2560x1440 on my Titan X with all in-game settings at their highest. FWIW the [H] review of Dying Light doesn't show any stuttering that would be associated with running at of VRAM in their FPS charts.

Since this game is fast-paced I think being able to experience it in more than the 30 FPS on consoles is more than worth it.

Is this a standalone expansion? I don't have the game installed anymore and certainly don't want to go through vanilla just to play the DLC.

Yeah its my curreny rig but I will only be playing @ 1080P so it might just be ok.
