My home file server is running off a Asus IP35-Pro, currently housing some random PCIe video and the perc 6/i card.Since the perc only holds 8 drives, I am thinking of implementing another because it's so cheap.
Current setup:
Board: Asus IP35-Pro
Controller: Dell Perc 6i
Drive Config: 6 x 1.5tb Seagate in Raid5
System: Windows Server 2008 R2
What I want to do:
-Add another Perc 6i to the system
-Add 4 x 3tb Seagate in Raid5
Concerns:
-I'll need to run a PCI video card (not pcie) as I won't have any PCIe slots with 2 raid cards
-Possible issues running two identical controllers in the same system?
Other Options:
-Would I be better off picking up a 12 or 16 port raid controller?
I am happy with the performance of the perc 6i. It's been a solid setup and it does it's job well. If anyone has ideas, suggestions, etc - please post here.
Thanks
