If I live in an apartment where my network devices detect like 20 different routers, should I be going with a dual band to avoid interference or is it not worth it?

If you're having trouble connecting and your devices support 5GHz, it's a no-brainer. Keep in mind 5GHz does not penetrate walls as easily as 2.4

I'm actually don't have a router right now, so I don't know if I will have problems with a 2.4, but I'm just trying to think ahead. I guess I'll just give it a go with the dual band.

It's not that much more expensive and you will get better speed with the dual band.

Right now what you can do is run a program like inSSIDer to see what the current network situation is like. Keep in mind this won't show interference from things such as cordless phones, baby monitors etc.
