Dragon Age: THE VEILGUARD

I thIt didn't look like a potion flask it didn't look like that from the distance. I don't drink the heaviest thing I drink is Prime Hydration powered mix or Liquid IV both of those are my game fuels.

Perhaps you think this series has gone woke.
Every character is literally pansexual. It's woke. Water is also wet. Whether you choose to play this game or not is entirely up to you, but please don't pretend things aren't the way they are. At least there aren't any ... scenes ... with bears.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Rook’s Coffer

This won't include the game, but it will get you a light-up Lyrium Dagger, Rook’s deck of cards featuring in-game art, an enhanced D12 die, a glass potion flask, a cloth map and quiver, a companion lithograph, and a thank-you letter from the developers...

I do not understand these collectors editions, they dont even give you the game with them anymore. I cant wait to pay all this money for the fancy version, then still have to pay for the game on top of it.

The game has never been woke

Since most people buy games digitally, this allows you to get the swag without being tied exclusively to one platform. Publishers these days also have the habit of not making a collector's editions with the PC version of the game packed in. This way you don't need to worry about it. If you want the game, retailers like Gamestop are selling bundles that include the game. Note that EA is also not calling this a "collector's edition." It's just a "coffer" that includes various items.

I like this trend, personally.

Coincidentally, Gamestop isn't offering a bundle with the PC version of the game.

This does look more like an action RPG and more similar to a fantasy Mass Effect. Perspective looks like a regular action RPG. I am reading the party is cut down to 2, but the perspective makes it look like a regular action RPG. Will this play more like FF7 Remake where you switch to people in your party during combat?

There is also Avowed coming out early 2025. Seems kind of similar but from a 1st person perspective.

In a recent interview they said there is no party control. Again the developer is patronizing gamers by explaining that we wouldn't be able to handle it due to the number of actions per minute.

I assume you can still issue some commands like Mass Effect games. Otherwise, it doesn't have a "party" at all. I wouldn't mind that though. An action RPG that focuses on story rather than collecting sticks is better, IMO. They just have to deliver in the right areas.

PC Features for Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Deep dive into all of the effort BioWare has put into optimizing the PC experience of Dragon Age: Veilguard...PCs made up 40% of the platform testing effort, with over 200,000 hours of performance and compatibility testing

We wanted to ensure the controls and UI are a good experience for both KBM and controllers; so we did close to 10,000 hours of user research testing to make sure of it...Dragon Age: The Veilguard will feature native support for PS5 DualSense controllers with haptics support in addition to the standard of Xbox controllers & keyboard + mouse...additionally, you can seamlessly transition between controllers or keyboard + mouse while playing or in menus...

At least they seem to realize this is either the end of BioWare or the dawn of a new era.

Seems like a lot of people will be disappointed with this change in direction. For me, a Mass Effect like game is more appealing. Of course that will depend on writing/quality/execution.

beautiful looking video of veilguard........ but don't know about having the 3rd person view again.

All of them were third-person view. The first game had the tactical camera on PC, but OTS third-person was still the default.

Looks like that Qunari has been slamming back that brain & nerve tonic.

At least I'm not the only one who had some issues with the way that Qunari looks. It was beyond uncanny valley territory for me and kept pulling me out of the scene. At no point have I seen a Qunari (the species) in a Dragon Age game look anything like that. It could be a player generated avatar (which I'm guessing is in the game since all the others one had it) but it's seriously offputting.

How is it "uncanny valley?" Uncanny valley is used to describe when a digital 3D character looks so close to real that it is creepy. The Qunari is a fantasy humanoid race and it looks nothing like a real human in the gameplay video. People have started applying that phrase incorrectly for the past few years for some reason.

Uncanny valley is the exact opposite of what you describe. It's an attempt to make CGI look real but no matter how much work they put into it it doesn't look right. From a quick glance it will look okay but there is always something that is off even if there is nothing you can point to that isn't right. Your mind notices something that is off about the look or the movements or something else.

In this case that doesn't look like a Qunari. It's humanoid and has the normal features of a Qunari but no matter what it doesn't look right compared to the Qunari we've seen before.

The graphics look great but I don't know if I like the feel of the game. It reminds me of the combat from Fable. It doesn't seem particularly new or groundbreaking. The AI control is all about combos and seems minimal attention to detail has been invested. They're using secondary and or side characters from Inquisition. Like Harding, who was a side character that you had almost zero interaction with. I like that they are extending the lore to a degree but I don't buy the veil guard shit. I thought Solas was supposed to be the big bad behind the scenes that actually caused all the issues in Inquisition to come to the forefront or he had a hand in it behind the scenes.

Regardless... It doesn't feel like Dragon Age to me, it feels like an Arcade simulation with pretty graphics. I rather enjoyed the less arcade, more power based feel to the previous game.
I also enjoyed the gameplay in Andromeda (ME) but they will likely throw all of that away in favor of this kind of game play. ME was always more narrative/RPG/Story than action and I think this formula here is going to define what the next mass effect looks like (an arcade romp).

Anyone else feel the same?

I'm with you. It seems like they're trying to turn it into Mass Effect when it was always supposed to be a ARPG/CRPG hybrid. Even then they don't give you as many options when commanding your party as Mass Effect did. I am also not a fan at all of the siloed mission structure. It feels like you're just going to be herded through a virtual tunnel from point A to B, making it feel more like those side-scrolling RPG hybrids that were in the arcades back in the early '90s.

Yes, that's it. I get the feeling it's going to be incredibly linear. It does feel like a side scroller to me. No skilled AI, just waves of them with Area of Effect abilities you have to dodge out of constantly. Even in the late game the player didn't appear to be a badass. That's what you look for in an RPG, for your main character to get to a level where you're confident you can take on a dragon and you wonder how it will go. One of my best memories is the boss / dragon battles in Inquisiton.

In this, the player is getting their ass handed to them due to AoE stuff and swarming or powerful enemies. The gameplay looks like it will become repetitive and old very fast.

Party size is small, party banter is non-existant. Inquisition was a crunch game that came together at the last minute with "Bioware Magic" but it was more or less the last of its kind.

Andromeda was more acrade in combat because you could switch power combos and abilities due to your AI support (according to lore). The gameplay was widely accepted and the multiplayer was more rewarding than ME3. But I get you, it does look like this (and likely the next ME) will lean heavily into linear arcade-like scrolling

Going to wait for reviews on this one and I'll gladly wait for them. If this gets a 9/10 from IGN I'll pick it up.

At least you can slow down the enemies..
IDK - It just feels like Fable + Combos and the combat doesn't look appealing. It's flashy and covers up animation deficiencies with bling and special effects. Mass Effect and Dragon Age have always been a cinematic experience, this looks like development hell screwed them and they had to go back to the drawing board and completely eliminated the open world aspect of the game. Mission based is a total regression for the entire franchise.

Enemies aren't smart, they have tons more hit points than you do. That's it. There is nothing here but an arcade scroller.

It looks cheap with some elements that are solid like a well spelled out choice / consequence system, dialogue matches your chosen responses that's huge. I like the branching loyalty system and the depth there. But the rest looks soulless.

This is Bioware in name only. I will hold the rest of my judgement for later but I don't think I will be picking this game up on day one.

I think we all expected more for 10 years of distance from Inquisition, that still holds up today. Inquisition, the game that came together in the last year of development will be very hard to top.
