I never said I didn't like this game? Where did I write this. I said right away, in the first sentence of my first post 'I would recommend this game to anybody here' - what's not clear about that?

I'm a few hours into a Nightmare playthrough now. Its definitely playable, not ridiculously hard. If anyone played as much BG/NWN as I did, I recommend skipping Normal and going for something harder from the start.

Is nightmare the "D&D Hardcore" equivalent difficulty? Thats all I played BG2 on.

It doesn't play anything like Guildwars aside from the cooldowns on powers, so that is a horrible comparison to make. In addition, the cooldown part is not a Guildwars innovation, and is currently used in tons of other games, so even that is pretty weak to start with.

Also, the reason someone said the thing about "WabeWalker again" is because you posted two fairly long posts saying the exact same thing. Nothing more.

As to it being the spiritual successor to BG2, but not what you expected.... Keep in mind that games and gaming change over time. The games that don't change when the successor comes out are the ones that tend to fail the worst and disappoint the most. For instance, the recent Wolfenstein game was pretty mediocre, and it was also pretty much exactly like the last one with no real innovation or change. This game is the spiritual successor, in that it is an RPG that is in the same basic format, story style, and gameplay style of BG2. But there had to be change, and there was, and it is not all bad.

Is it perfect? Of course not.
Is your opinion valid, and do you have a right to be disappointed? Of course.
Do you need to repeat the exact same ideas over and over to make your point and express your opinion? Not so much.

I havent read through every page of this thread but to all the people saying they are pausing constantly, what difficulty setting are you playing on? I have it set to normal and I have put 5 hours into this game tonight and only paused to go take a piss. The AI seems to work pretty well for me especially once I got the hang of the tactics screen. The only thing I really have to do with the party members is switch to them by clicking on them to make them heal themselves. Other than that, tanks go to the front, DPS goes to the side and healers stay in the back with no interaction from me.

So far Im loving this game!

Although combat is engaging and fun, I think it plays backup to the real rockstar which is the environment and story. The conversations are well done and hilarious at proper moments.

My CE was waiting on my Front porch when I got home from work last night.

LOVE this game, Aion will be taking a backseat to this for awhile as will Torchlight and Mass Effect. Found myself staying up way past my bedtime just to finish my characters starting storyline, it's that good in my opinion. Story sucked me right in.

What are you playing as? I was bouncing in between an elven mage and a human rogue before I finally decided to go "rogue" (ha.. ha). Normally, I don't care about family/sibling storylines (since I have a disfunctional family) but the did a really good job making you actually care about the characters.

Can't wait to sink my teeth in more after a long and boring day of work.

I finished the Dwarf Commoner/lowlife scum, to hear the dwarf nobles tell it, Starting story, it was a blast, deceit, treachery, sex, controversy and lots and lots of blood.

Spoiler alert.. As the Human Noble I get to see my home invaded and my family slaughtered , being betrayed by an old "family friend" Awesome story telling.

Has anyone else reached the battle of Redcliffe? Where you fight all the zombies. I did this on normal mode and it probably took me about 5 tries. I finally finished it by utilizing the knights and just kiting all the mobs back to them. Holy shit that was hard.

Played for a solid 10 hours yesterday, awesome game so far! Combat is more complex than just managing skill/spell timers, placement of your characters and timing your attacks properly are keys to winning more difficult battles.

My only problem so far is that I have yet to pick up anyone who can cast healing spells (playing a Human Warrior). Just got started on recruiting new party members though, so hopefully I’ll encounter someone in this first town you visit after leaving the wilds (can’t think of the name right now).

Got mine yesterday with the Amazon release-day shipping.

Unfortunately I was onyl able to play for a couple of hours last night, but I really enjoy it so far. With the settings cranked the graphics look pretty darn good, and I really like the combat system, but the narrative is definitely the best part so far, and I'm enjoying the voice acting immensely.

Looking forward to spending a good bit of time playing this weekend.

I wish there was some way to make the mouse spin the view instead of panning left and right.
A UI font size option should be there, too. Considering the console versions have much larger text for 1280x720, you'd think that would be an option in the supposedly more advanced/more customizable PC version. Also, even though most people wouldn't use it, it seemed a little odd that there was no gamepad support even though (again) the console versions are designed with it. Having the option to be lazy would've been nice.

Relatively minor gripes, but the configuration options were much more sparse than I would've liked. People talk about games being console-ized. This one was console-ized in the wrong ways.

I was thinking the same thing. I installed this game on my living room PC because I prefer to play this kind of game from my sofa. I was disappointed that I couldn't change the font size in the UI, it's too small to read from across the room. I'm enjoying the game overall though.

If you hold the right mouse button it allows you to rotate the view.

Setting spin as the default would be a nice option though.

    I have a QX6850 @ 3.33ghz and dual GTX 275's in SLI.

I am running 1920x1200 8xAA all settings max, plus 16xAF and trilinear filtering on in the settings files.

I get a steady 70+ fps but for some reason when I am in big areas like the Grey Warden's camp my fps drop into the mid 30s. Should this be happening? I am using the latest nvidia beta drivers which are meant to give better performance for this game.

The game is awesome. Period. I've tried the Dwarf Noble and Human Magi starting stories out. I'll try an Elf of some sort and a Human Noble next.

I'm playing as an elven mage on 360 (yes, I know) and am loving this game! The controls are very well done (even on the console!). Great game -- this is going to keep me busy for a long time!

I never said 'you don't like the game'. I'm asking now, whether you think it could be a contender for your personal game of the year. I'm not trying to flame you, I'm curious as to your opinion on the game now, since you have had the most play time out of anyone here at the moment.

    **SPOILER**

I was on top fo the world man. I just won my own gladiator event, I had a nice helm, I just got promoted and then BAM, I get exiled. Whiskey tango foxtrot!

Never got into the BG series much but having fun with this. I managed to start saving my progress every few minutes because I die A LOT! The party character controls seem a little more cumbersome then they have to be and I have yet to figure out the script part where you can tell them what to do based on NPC health, etc,e tc. and MAN are they squishy!

Played the game for 5 hours last night; set the difficulty on hard. The first boss in the tower took a few tries, I only had 3 health potions so it took some adjustments and a little bit of luck.

These are the only minor annoyances I've had:

Invisible walls give the game a linear feeling at times. Probably because the last game I played was Risen.

You can't dodge projectiles, or am I missing something? I've seen arrows waver back and forth and take drastic turns just to hit me.

Allies are too eager to haul ass into battle (use of hold position helps a lot).

Other than that, the game is a lot of fun so far.

Pre-ordered this game but passed out after I got home from work before I could play...damn daylight savings. Are there only three classes in this game or do the archetypes branch out later on? Do melee/ranged characters have more than one ability or are they pretty much auto-attack like in BG2?

If you go to combat tactics, you can change from aggressive to defensive to whatever kind of tactic you want them to take if you don't want them charging headlong into battle.

This is not a real-time action game. The outcome of the archer attacking you was already determined, the animation is there to represent the outcome, not the other way around.

Dragon Age: Origins is one of the greatest RPGs of all time. BioWare does it again. Plus, I love Claudia Black so that's a shoe-in for me.

I spec'd out a human rogue with heavy combat emphasis, dual weild/strike and minor stealth/lockpicking. So far, I'm liking it. Combat is smooth and easy to manage, yet challenging. I was only able to play for 2 hours last night, but it has me excited to play more.

Hopefully I can get H1N1 or something so I can stay home and play it for a couple days :O

Yeah, the origin stories are crazy addictive. I played through Dwarf Classless and Human Noble last night. I'm seriously torn between starting another origin or continuing on to actually play the game.
