Police in Munich, Germany are using data from a refugee's Apple iPhone 6S in a murder and rape trial. Police hired a company that broke into the iPhone and are using details from the stock installed and turned on health data application that show the man doing a "stair workout," when allegedly the man was in middle of the act. Police Chief Peter Egetemaier said (autostart video) it is the first time that "correlated health and geo-data," have been used in a prosecution.
The accused - Hussein K - has admitted his guilt but disputed some details. Data suggesting the suspect was climbing stairs could correlate to him dragging his victim down a riverbank and climbing back up, police said. As well as locating Hussein's movements, the phone also suggested periods of more strenuous activity, including two peaks, which the app put down to him "climbing stairs".
