In celebration of its 21st birthday, developer Hi-rez Studios has released every game in the Tribes series for free. Get them all right here.

omg Tribes is my childhood in a nutshell, That and red alert 2. Can we still play multiplayer?!

Bought a Voodoo3 3500 for Tribes, looked so good!

Before that, I was stuck playing the game in software mode on some SiS adaptor.
 
Wait, wait...not just Tribes, but the preceding Earthsiege games as well!

I played Earthsiege/Earthsiege 2 before MechWarrior. My first introduction to mech combat!

My retail copy of Tribes came with one of the mech games... never did install it. :p
 
The Earthsiege games and Tribes 1 have single player. After that they are all multiplayer only I believe.

Tribes 1 singleplayer is more of a tutorial than anything else.

Tribes 2 had a little bit more of a singleplayer element (still very much a tutorial, though).

Tribes: Vengeance is the only one with an actual singleplayer campaign.
 
Would be awesome if they could release the source code for the original Tribes and let the community have at it.
 
I never actually played any games in the tribes series.

I remember them being in the PC magazines at the time, but they never found their way onto my machine.

What is the relationship to the Metaltech series? It looks like they are giving away the Metaltech games as well.

God seeing the anniversary be for that many years makes me feel old. I thought I was the only person on earth that liked and played Earthsiege! Was a great mech game and underrated imo.
 
I'm guessing this is kind of a waste of time because who is going to run the servers? Not Hi-Rez, except for maybe Ascend.

I might try the Earthsiege though.....never did when they first came out. I didn't get into it until Starsiege:Tribes.
 
Man I LOVED Earthsiege! Best mech simulation I have played. Mechwarrior games felt too arcadey to me.

Couldnt we reverse engineer it now with the recent ruling on hacking old servers?
 
Tribes 1 might be the one game that I played more than any other, ever, including WoW.
Got the NVidia Riva TNT to play it, then got the TNT2 for better performance later on.

I actually sometimes had trouble focusing at work because I wanted to be home playing. It was that fun and addictive.

Tribes was great for all the mods. Never will I forget the Shifter mod for Tribes 1. The Boomstick was AMAZING. Nothing I loved more than setting myself up with a light armor (scout I think), getting a Boomstick, Sniper Rifle and Spinfusor, slowly running over to the enemy base, running inside with the boomstick, killing EVERYTHING, then running outside, grabbing the flag and boosting back over to my base to deliver the flag (the Scout carried boost grenades that basically made him uncatchable when you had the flag).

That and sighting nukes for the heavies to throw at the enemy base was amazing.
 
Shazbot. I was in ttc terminal mod clan. I was a damn good deulist. In capture the flag competitions my tribe assigned me to chasing flag carriers etc.. And circuitgirls.com was a sponsor of mine. Id go to lan parties wearing soft porn tshirts and squirt bottle fans. Good times
 
I had Earthsiege/Earthsiege 2 also but never played any of the Tribes games. Does the 2012 game still have a MP community?
 
Tribes 2 was my jam as a kid. Native 64 player battles on massive maps. Nothing beats getting a couple of transports together loaded with juggenauts loaded with motors and flying over the the enemy base to completely wreck havoc while scouts move in to secure the flag. Great shit!
 
I spent so many hours in class playing Tribes on terrible dell pentium 200mhz machines lol

Ha! Yep me too. I put a lot of time into WoW, so that's saying something. :D

I also bought an NVidia Riva TNT specifically for Tribes 1, but I held out a bit longer and got a GeForce 2 GTS when they came out. It had a massive 32MB of VRAM if memory serves.
 
OpenGL for Tribes 1? You guys are crazy, Voodoo's and their Glide were the way to play that game.
