So there's no confusion about what I'm talking about here's a screenshot:

It's that box your mouse makes when you go to select several files at once.

It only happens on the first time I make one on my desktop after not making one for a while.

This isn't really a huge problem, but it just started doing it recently and it's really starting to bug me.

I think it started doing it after I installed Internet Explorer 7, but I'm not sure.

If I open up a window and move it over the box, then close it, the box is gone.

Does anyone know what's causing this problem?

I'd suspect crappy video drivers before anything else. The data isn't being refreshed in the video RAM as it should be so the dotted line stays "there" onscreen until new data is flushed into the same portion of video RAM overwriting it.

New video drivers might be in order...

Well, it's a new month, so there's probably new ATI drivers out anyways.

I'll give em a shot when I get some time.

Thanks.

Can't you just press f5 to make it go away?

I've seen this issue over the years and never bothered to do anything but just refresh the desktop.

New video card and a repair install later and I'm still having this problem.

Figured I'd give this a bump to see if anyone has found a way to fix this.
