Bethesda also released these versions on the Bethesda.net launcher, free to those who already own the original games.
if you cared at all about doomI/II you'd be playing on a source port where these "huge free updates" occurred like 15 years ago...
On PC, sure, but this makes it the best version on consoles released to date.

Hmm...

1993/12/10 = MS-DOS (initial release)
1994/11/21 = Sega 32X
1994/11/28 = Jaguar
1995/09/01 = Super NES
1995/11/16 = PlayStation
1996/04/26 = Panasonic 3DO
1997/03/26 = Saturn
2001/11/05 = Gameboy Advance
2004/08/03 = Xbox
2006/09/27 = Xbox 360
2012/10/18 = PlayStation 3
2019/07/26 = Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Switch

Seems like console Doom is about as old as the game itself.

Well, to be fair - wasn't it not until the OG Xbox version that PC/Console Doom received parity? (Talking vanilla versions here.)

Still, Doom is probably the only FPS that I prefer to play with a gamepad (excluding Brutal Doom mods). I originally played the game on a KB+M, but without using the mouse to aim (used arrow keys to control aiming, held a mouse button and arrow key to strafe), so when I did use a gamepad for the game, it felt better. I remember the Playstation version feeling particularly good with the gamepad.

I just can't go back and play those super old games anymore. I'd rather remember them fondly than play them now and see how bad they are by modern standards.
Doom is, IMHO, one of those games that never age. It is still as good as it was 20 years ago. It just works. Again, IMHO.
*Edit* typo fix

I still remember how freaked out I was playing Doom with the Aliens mod. I never had issues with the visuals but the ambient audio sent chills up my spine.

Yeah. Doom 1-2 is like original X-Com 1 and 2 to me, something I play through once every year (or second year) and have a blast.
Biannually? I still play through both The Ultimate Doom and Doom II at least every quarter. I've become a snob and play it with Chocolate Doom for that original pixelated goodness.

I think we are past that. Beth has owned ID software for 11ish years now. Well zenimax but effectively operated by bethesda.
They own the rights, doesn't mean it's their game.

Then you would have nothing to 'cringe' about right? In reference to your earlier post? They have been calling ID software games bethesda since the zenimax purchase.

Will this patch work on my 486 dx4 @ 120mhz?

I kid but that's how I still play Doom because why not
All the WADs except SI6IL will work in the original DOS version, at least. It's not like you can't get them elsewhere, though, including No Rest for the Living.

I just can't the Quasi-3D thing anymore, even for nostalgia. I actually dropped out of gaming until it got good enough for me again. Roughly about HL2. Even that is kind of a rough trip down memory lane.

I have sigil but haven't taken the time to attempt it on the 486. Have you tried it on BOOM or any other dos port or even just limit extending patches for the original?? I thought he included a smaller wad without the soundtrack that would work on any limit unlocked engine

I tried it on Chocolate Doom. It causes a visplane overflow on the original version of the game and any ports based on its original engine constraints. Somebody got it working in DOS on a 486, though.

Brutal Doom + Zandronum (Doom, Doom2, Final Doom, Ultimate Doom), plus Sigil for Doom. Gives you Jump, mouse look/aim, new kill animations (this is where Doom(2016) got glory-kills from). It's still fun to play this every so often.

I have no issues
I am currently playing master of Orion the dos version still this many years later nothing has given the same gameplay mechanics for replayability.
256colors Glory...

I have also completed a copy of the old Wolfenstein games in dos last, or previous year. had to get used to the aiming though

I have Zero issues with Zdoom. It makes Doom look better than it ever did while not being very far from the original. It might not look 'real' but it's good enough and the Doom gameplay is classic.

I don't know why this triggers you so much. I would imagine it being the most up-voted post in the topic means I'm not in the wrong.

They have every right to call games made after the acquisition Bethesda games. But ones made 15 years earlier, definitely not.

Same way as I would not call Stunts an EA game. Despite the fact that EA bought out DSI in 1991 one year after Stunts was released.

hmm no not triggered, lets save that word for larger emotional events than a forum post.

After re-reading I think I got your point now.

It just came off originally as one of the run of the mill "omg hate on ea/ubisoft/bethesda" posts.
