Don't Have Amazon Prime? No Star Wars VIII on Disc For You

ExtremeTech is reporting that if you want to purchase a physical copy of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Amazon for your collection, you are out of luck unless you are an Amazon Prime member. Both the Blu-ray and DVD copies of the movie are listed as "Exclusively for Prime members" on Amazon, in addition Beauty and the Beast, Thor: Ragnarok, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 are all restricted to Prime members and Prime members only.

Interesting choice by Amazon for sure, ExtremeTech makes an interesting argument in the quote below. Fortunately though The Last Jedi sucked, so the chances of actually wanting to buy it are slim.

Best of all, Amazon knows that while you may wind up going to Target or Best Buy eventually, you’ll visit Amazon first. The company’s overwhelming domination of the online sales market give it the effective right of first refusal - by which we mean that if shoppers default to checking Amazon first, Amazon is essentially "deciding" if it wants those visitors as shoppers.

I'm assuming these are limited-time exclusives? If not, these companies are stupid as fuck.

If it is, how is this any different from other store exclusive releases?

EDIT: what the fuck are you smoking rgMekhanic? Did you even do your research? It's probably just a "store exclusive" extra or packaging. Stop posting Fake News you didn't even check before posting.

Re-Read after your response and added "on Amazon," didn't notice it read clear as mud at first

So your clickbait headline mentions none of this rather important "detail." Did you learn to write at Huffington Post?

Wouldn't be the first time that Amazon made something Prime Exclusive. Like 20% off new game releases. I imagine it will be a timed exclusive, much like the 2-week window for game discounts.

Why would I sign up for Amazon Prime to get a DVD when I can drive for 10 minutes and get it?

I’m a Star Wars nerd, but this movie ranked somewhere between episode 1-3 for me. So w/e. Good luck to them. I wouldn’t be a buyer anyway.

Wait, you aren't screaming about how the consumer choice is impacted here like you do GPP?!? I'm blown away...

Right, the endless whining about GPP is quite pointless. It's just an enforced rebranding by Nvidia. It's no more controlling than forcing card makers AND retailers to minimum price points, like Nvidia has been doing for years.

Kyle is just having way too much fun with this because bitching about things is his favorite pastime :D

This is probably because of the ongoing Amazon / Disney dispute behind the scenes. Disney wants so much control over pricing, so basically Amazon doesn’t really want to sell newer Disney movies. You also can’t preorder them on Amazon. Another example of Disney’s control, look at how there are no 4K Disney movies on iTunes.

I read it and knew exactly what the title and post meant. It means that if you want to buy your copy of those movies from Amazon, you have to be a Prime Member. It's not saying that those titles are only available from Amazon.

This item, sold by Amazon.com, is currently reserved exclusively for Prime members.

It's still available from other sellers of course.

I don't think Amazon understands their situation here.

People still buy movies on DVD? Especially shite like this that you'll watch once and then throw in the garage sale pile?

Even though it has gone up lately, disk storage is simply too cheap to be going around buying dvd movies. And this only effects ~5 people in the states that don't have prime anyway.

lol, another nerd who hated Last Jedi. As soon as I found out the SW nerds were raging about it, I knew it was a good movie. Love the tears!

Sure, it was visually stunning, but the plot was pure, refined shit from start to finish.

Holy crap default... I could point a finger and insinuate while while feeling superior to everyone else too.... but...

In any case, I think most people find DVD's too much work anymore. I try to have most of my library on the HTPC but I just can't store it all. Sometimes it's better to pop in a DVD than try to stream something on my crappy internet when I am wanting HD with no interruptions.

Well, I buy all my movies and cd music and anything disc related from cduniverse. This is a better deal usually then amazon or the same price.

I notice Amazon's prices are high on some movies, so I bought them for about half at Ebay. No same day/next day shipping, but it's hard to beat the prices.

Something's up with Disney and Amazon. Amazon didn't offer a pre-order on TLJ while Best Buy did. Same deal with Black Panther. After TLJ was released, stock was very spotty. This is probably less a "We want to encourage Prime signups" thing and more a "We don't have very much stock of this, and we want to make sure at least our members can get it" thing.

Disney and Amazon have been having a dick waving contest for a while now. Amazon refuses to take pre-orders unless Disney plays ball, Disney refuses to play ball and wants Amazon to pay the same increased prices they demanded from other retailers. Neither company is willing to take the nuclear option because they make too much money off of each other so things are in this current mess.

Gosh you shareholders get salty as fuck when your favourite stock is at risk.
Hope it nose dives once they get fined.

Honestly, I can't tell the difference from the previous recent Star Wars movies. As far as I know, Star Wars has always been shitty other than the originals.

You mean like episode 1, 2, and 3?

Cause the Star Wars nerds I know raged about those —— and they were awful.

For my part I liked the Last Jedi. (A casual star wars original trilogy fan)

And like most people of your obvious political leaning, you're unnecessarily rude and obnoxious.

Take your misguided sense of superiority elsewhere you.

this is due to Amazon's ongoing dispute with Disney...has been going on for years...no Disney title is available for pre-order on Amazon and always in limited stock after release...making it a 'Prime Exclusive' is just a way to cover-up the limited supply that Disney gives them

Hmm, that's ok TBH all those movies I torrented, full blu ray images no less. Burned them on a blu ray discs and printed the labels. Plays and looks all original :D
I mean I was going to buy Star Wars but now if they keep doing this, hell more $$ in my pocket lol. Oh and best torrent site I think is RARBG, all quality stuff.
