A friend has this mother board A7V8X-LA (Kelut)

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...tegory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=447943#N556

it's in a compaq sr1313cl. The system specifications http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...nfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=447943

Both are on the compaq=hp website.

The motherboard specs say "Support up to maximum 2 GB memory (PC manufacturer's maximum memory may differ)"

The system specs say "Maximum allowed 1.0 GB (2 X 512 MB) requires the replacement of the installed 256 MB DIMM"

What the hell does that mean? I don't have any ddr400 laying around in 1gb sticks but Im sure I could find some. Would it work?

The board & chipset was made before 1GB DDR dimms existed. At work I remember some success using 1GB dimms on similar boards with 4 dimm slots although I did not have this exact board and my success was also not on a lock down board.

So I imagine it would support 2 gb, if it had 4 slots, using 512meg dimms. This board only has 2 slots, thus the max of 1 gb
