Does iTunes and iPhoto store duplicate files once you import them in the program?

So when I copied all of my music and pictures over from my windows machine I copied them in a folder labeled "albums" into the "music" folder on my hard drive. Once I opened iTunes and imported all of my music, another folder labeled "iTunes" popped up on my music folder on my hard drive that has all the same folders as my "albums" folder...

The same thing happened in iPhoto...

So Can i delete the duplicate albums folder and pictures folders to save hard drive space?

Pretty sure it moves them into the respective programs "iTunes" or "iPhoto" folder. Doublecheck that all of your stuff is there before you hit the button...

Yes.

You can delete either as long as the archival option is on for the program.

I believe you can turn the archiving feature off in iPhoto, but i know you can turn it off in iTunes.

Yeah, I figured it out after a while... :p Just opened up another 25gigs from deleting the duplicate iTunes music files...
