Does it matter which pcie slot the video card goes into?

I have an old 939 asus a8n-sli. Does it matter if i put the video card in the second slot instead of the first?
 
It should be fine, but I would double check the manual. My 975X mobo has one slot locked at x4, which you definitely do not want.
 
No, on those mobos, the port the PCI-E card is in will run at 16x and the other will be off (if the SLI card is disabled). Otherwise each slot is at 8x.
 
I used to have that exact board, and for some reason something blocked me from using the slot closest to the cpu, I think maybe a hdd or something. Anyway running a card in the second slot worked fine.

It's the northbridge heatsink for me, hah. Looks like everything is ok, thanks.
