Is it safe to ship a CPU locked in a motherboard socket?

Google returned a few outdated opinions on this. Curious what all you guys here do.

Thanks.

Only one time when I didn't have the original case the cpu comes with, arrived with no issues.

I don't think I've ever seen a socket type where this would a problem. Intel CPUs really get locked in there and the only way it probably would come out is if the board cracked in half.

Never had any issues shipping or receiving motherboards with the CPU installed on them.

If I sell a MB + CPU combination, I always leave the cpu in place.
Taking the cpu out, when you don't need to, exposes the little socket pins to potential damage. If one of the pins gets bent....DOA.

If you have to send a MB only make sure you have the OEM socket cover.

As the poster above said, I would NOT recommend trying to sent the combination with a heatsink attached. I remove those and send them separately.....or in a big box with adequate packing materials.

Safer to leave the CPU in the socket IMO. As the others have said, no cooler installed is safer.

I leave the cpu locked in the socket but remove the HSF, never had any issues.
