do you rather have 2* 20inch or 1*24inch monitor?

Depends. In work 2x20" (development applications, documents), at home 1x24" (also for games, films).

I have two 20" CRTs on my main system and wouldn't want to swap them even for one massive 30" screen. Once you go multi-display there's no way back :)

I agree. I like multiple monitors at work because I can have e-mails and stuff on one monitor and look at CAD drawings or test reports or stuff like that on the other one.

For home use, definitely would prefer a single 24". Videos only need one screen. You can game on multiple monitors, but you need three unless you want to have a thick bezel in the center of your vision.

Plus, 20" LCD is likely 1600x900 or 1366x768, whereas a 24" will almost certainly be 1920x1080 or 1920x1200.

I prefer multi-screens. I've gotten so used to duals and triples that I feel handicapped when using only 1 screen.
I wouldn't mind having a larger screen, but I would still have to have 1 or 2 equal or smaller screens.
If I had to choose one or the other, I would choose 2 20's.

Yes, videos and such only need one screen. But if you game windowed (loved Aion's full-screen 'window') then it doesn't minimize if you're messing in a web-browser on the other screen, or IMing friends, or whatever.

Personally I just went from 2 x 20" (1600x1200) at home to replacing one of the 20s with a 24" (1920x1200). 1 x 24 and 1 x 20 seems to be pretty sweet so far :)
