I've searched a bit and cannot find definitive answers to this question.

People have pointed to animated demos from ATI which show 2 being used, many screenshos of rigs i've seen are using 2, I've been using only 1 for a while now and sometimes I feel the speed of my 4870 crossfire is a bit slower than it should be, especially in high resolutions like 2560x1600

Can anyone shed any light?

i remeber reading a while ago on visionteks or diamonds website that yes, u do need to connect both bridges. give it a try, it cant hurt

Well it's certainly not hurt so far, it does beg the question "what happens with tri crossfire", I always assumed that there was 2 bridge connect points to allow for tri crossfire, where it would be impossible to connect all 3 cards using dual bridges.

Im not convinced it's helped a great deal :/
