According to Quartz, the DJI Spark is experiencing some flight difficulties. Released in May of this year by the Chinese manufacturer as a small and affordable drone, the devices are powering down during operation and dropping like flies. Some forum posters are suggesting it could be an issue with the batteries latching off similar to GoPro's Karma drones. While the cause of the crashes are unclear, DJI has responded and suggests all users update to the latest firmware. Let's hope the operators can avoid power lines.

The Spark weighs about 300g (0.6 pounds), and is roughly 5.5 inches wide. If it were flying near 400 feet up, the maximum altitude US regulators allow drones to fly, when it fell, it would likely do a fair bit of damage if it hit you on its way down.

Just was thinking that for amazon drone deliveries ... the force of impact of a high fall + small weight + distance = dead kids. Amazon would most likely want to limit devices by weight > possibly build a reusable container and a safety mechanism for light packages (paper airplane slow fall).

So the writer of the article never heard of terminal velocity?

Amazon can't do drone deliveries. Where does this misconception stem from???
