Most fans would say that if anyone had to publicly apologize for the Star Wars franchise’s lackluster state, it should be Kathleen Kennedy, but surprisingly, Disney’s own CEO has taken the initiative: in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bob Iger blamed himself, admitting he made a mistake by doing everything “a little too much, too fast.”

I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made — I take the blame — was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn't mean we're not going to make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. But I think we're going to be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.

He's apologizing for there being too much Star Wars in too small a space of time. But, shouldn't he be apologizing for the Star Wars content that's being pushed out being crap?

I don't think the issue is too much, but the lack of quality to what's there.

This is the next step in Kathleen Kennedy's removal from the Star Wars franchise. In a few months it will be announced that she left to pursue other interests; or so the intarwebz whisper. Sounds highly plausible, good riddance!

I wasnt too turned off by the recent films.

They were nowhere near as bad as that disaster freakshow that was the prequels.

Those things would have been better never made.

I was actually relieved at how not terrible the new films were when I saw them, but I guess my expectations were very low.

As everyone knows, the secret to happiness is low expectations. :p

For real. It's alright if expectations are managed.

IDK, if it's done right, shell crap out, life is short.
Just don't have people shitting on the IP lore.

If you see too much of something, it loses its mystique: boobs, for instance.
I sorry, if you get tired of boobs, there's something wrong with you son! I can never have too much of tits and ass.
The Dark Crystal, fond memories.
Everything in moderation....
Never

To late Bob the series is already toast due to you putting a total SJW dolt woman in charge. Speed had nothing to do with it.

They could just apologise by stopping. 3 trains wrecked is quite enough, don't need that 4th steam loco mickey joining them in the pile.

I fully disagree. I think the prequels were far better films than Solo and TLJ. Yes the prequels were full of bad writing, bad acting and general WTF moments. However they weren't full of agenda pushing bad writing, characters who act in complete contradiction to everything they were for decades, bullshit powers, nonsensical deaths and systematic destruction of certain characters. I can sit through the prequels, I'll never sit through TLJ again.

Back on topic. He is doing exactly what a CEO does. Fans may want Kathleen to come out and apologize, but frankly that isn't her job. However I can honestly state that I will absolutely not give another film out of them a chance unless her and everyone she hired are fired.

What agenda do you think were they pushing? I didn't notice anything.

It kind of goes hand-in-hand, plus its easier for him to take on the blame for quantity vs throwing everyone under the bus for quality. Throwing someone like Kathleen Kennedy under the bus right now, when LucasFilm is still filled with her loyalists, really isn't a smart move. Better to take on the blame, and responsibility, and just take control behind the scenes.

I don't blame Iger for hiring Kennedy for the position. She was highly recommended by both Lucas and Spielberg. Spielberg credits her with helping a lot of his movies. She produced a lot of successful films over the years. Her resume pre-Star Wars made it seem like she was the right person for the job. I remember a lot of people being excited for her taking the leadership position at LucasFilm and spearheading Star Wars.

I trying to gauge how big the rack is on 2nd from the left, bra or no bra? They seem to be low enough but who am I kidding natural knockers that big and that perky with no bra, only in dreams. That is all I see in that picture.

I still want them to make the new non-Skywalker trilogy that the Game of Thrones guys are working on (David Benioff and Dan Weiss)...drop the Rian Johnson trilogy and keep the GoT guys...those guys adapted an epic book series into an epic TV show...

I'm really interested in seeing what Benioff and Weiss are doing, but I do also kind of want to see what Johnson would pitch. I like his visual style and how he directs a movie, but his scripts have problems. Looper was an outstanding premise held together by great chemist and good acting from Gordon-Levitt and Willis, but the script fell apart often and have several narrative problems. If they keep him around, I hope Iger assigns someone (or multiple people) to oversee the scripts for his projects.

The spin off films were too much too fast, but fuck the internet trolls. I really enjoyed The Last Jedi.

Rogue One was a mixed experience. I liked some of it, but the story line felt overly simplified at times, like I was watching some sort of kids film. Overall I don't regret watching it.

I also enjoyed The Force Awakens. I thought it was a great. I don't know what people hate about The Last Jedi. It certainly didn't stand out as one of Star Wars best, but it also wasn't bad. It was watchable.

I haven't yet seen Solo, but I'm not sure how I am going to like it. Anyone other than Harrison Ford in that role is just wrong.

Trolls? Most don't like TLJ. It's not trolls

Every single Star Wars discussion gets trolled with stuff like this:

No, you don't. The prequels are literally an unwatchable mess with no cohesive plot or meaningful characters. I knew there was something horribly wrong with Episode I when I was 10 years old.

The only thing I didn't care for in TLJ was the casino sequence, and some of the scenes (particularly Yoda's apparition and the throne room sequence) are among the best in Star Wars. I'd 'rank' it higher than Return of the Jedi, but not quite as good as Empire.

Trolling these films over dislike of the cast's political views is just going to make studios less likely to experiment with new ideas in favor of more 'safe' crap with mass appeal.

Sure it is. Anyone who disagrees with our new socialist overboard is either a troll, nazi, racist, homophobe, etc.

Facts are irrelevant - feelings are what really matter now

TLJ was not that bad but some parts were so slow and bad (casino scene, bb8 trying to fix the ship, rose tico) it took away from the pace of the movie like brakes in a story that have no place being there. The first order was not menacing it was more inept and almost a joke.
It could have been far better.
This guy on youtube Ivan Ortega is editing TLJ to make it flow better. He even made a trailer fix for solo that got me hyped and wishing that was the movie they released one can wish.

Really dude? You are really going to tell them what they're allowed to think about some movies?

No, I'm going to call out obvious trolling when I see it. Comparing these newer films to the Phantom Menace and it's ilk is fucking stupid.

What did you expect? Disney paid billions for the SW franchise. Gotta get a quick return to cover the quarterly reports. Plus every movie made is one more they can milk for revenue for the next 150+ years until the copyright runs out. There are already hundreds of thousands(millions?) of folks that have been born since Solo came out. Some of them will buy a copy in the future.
