disk partially overwritten with zeros, how to recover what's left?

Started to run killdisk on the wrong drive. Wrote zeros for about 15-20 seconds on a 2TB drive NTFS formatted drive. Would like to get the data back that's still on it.

How would I go about that?

Windows wants to initialize the disk, which I probably don't want?

It's not mission critical to get the data back, it would just be convenient if I could easily recover what's left. If there's no way to essentially get the files with appropriate extensions back I'll just reformat and move on.

See if testdisk can recover. I would do a bit for bit copy first however.

You probably just need to restore the partition table and it will be fine. (besides the date thats already been overwritten.)

Ive used some software to recover accidently deleted partitions in the past, worked great.

Otherwise I am sure just some normal data recover software will work for you.

Giving Testdisk a try. There are a whole bunch of images on the disk mainly in TIF format, some ascii files. Nothing really worth sending it to data recovery for though.
