Disabling APU to run GPU

Do you guys think a new FM2+ Mobo would solve all my problems, or is it even worth it?

yes just changing to another better fm2 board should fix it as the bios wont be crippled like the Lenovo's. and it might just drop in too, nothing to fuck with. just try and find one with 6+ power phase and a heatsink on it if you intend on OCing. you can get a mobo for $50-70, look for an A78 or A88 chipset.

for OCin on am3 you want 970 or 990 and at least a 212evo but cant get those in matx, only seen the 780 chipset.
if you get a combo at microcenter you can get an 8320e and matx mobo for $120 and should be ok to ~4.2GHz(low vrm count).

The reviews are mixed, but unless the listing is wrong, this should be a 970-based mATX motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157582

I wouldn't expect stellar overclocking from something so inexpensive with questionable power delivery. A mild OC on one of the lower-power AM3+ chips should be attainable though.

The A8 7600 may not be that bad either if you get a better motherboard for it that can OC it a bit (BCLK OC only I believe).

Everytime I restart my pc I get this shit now. So I type "exit" twice to exit this GNU GRUB stuff? What is happening. lmao. My small problem keeps growing

This is after removing the GPU and resetting CMOS and removing mobo battery. any advice for this?

grub's a boot loader isn't it? do you dual boot Linux or something? check that no cables got knocked loose if you do

yup just burn the whole system to purge the lenovo curse from your home, maybe a smudging ceremony too. then start fresh with a system built by your hands! :)
kidding aside, burn what? yeah check it hasn't tried to go raid or something.
I think your easiest solution is a $60ish fm2 board to replace the shitty Lenovo board.

The bios has zero SATA settings that I can adjust, ha. It wont stop booting into that mode. I can get out of it with exit twice, but still it shouldn't happen. Going on 8 hours of attempting to fix this issue only to make it worse.

Fix it till it's broken... thats the [H] way.

Why are all the AM3+ mATX MOBOS only DDR3 1600 (OC). I don't want to buy new ram as well if I upgrade.

Not to mention when I upgrade I'm going to lose my wireless 5ghz card because it takes mPCIE

yeah 1600 used to be considered an oc on the ram. its not really and your ram should work just fine.

reload?! maybe maybe not. the chipset will be using the same drivers so as long as windows doesn't freak out over the sata controller change everything should just work. after a couple reboots.

This is that plan, use my integrated graphics for now and keep everything as is.

When that tax returns hits my account I'll be doing a small upgrade.

Thank you guys for all the help and I'll keep you up to date if I fix it.

Well F*** me. Look what I found. Maybe the previous owner dual booted and never deleted the partions, so when I reset the BIOS it made ubuntu top priority.

I set Windows Boot manager to the top and it booted straight into windows.

One problem down, another to go. lol

people on H seriously recommending a new board instead of a solution to the problem? and shit talking lenovo? really?

Hey man by all means if you can help me with this gpu issue Ill be greatful. I think we are all out of ideas and with them not being able to actually see whats going on in person, its hard to diagnose.

But, if you have some fresh Ideas I would love to hear it.

my honest suggestion is to go here:

https://forums.lenovo.com/

lenovo staff frequent the forums and have been extremely helpful when I was having an issue with my machine. It turned out to be an issue across the board for the model I have, which led to them doing tests in the lab and releasing a BIOS update to fix the issue.

Another thing I would check is gpu activity and clock speeds using afterburner. Is your gpu being utilized, and if so, is it reaching the 3d clock speeds and not just staying at idle clocks?

I actually just posted in the Lenovo forum and I'm waiting for a response.

I just did the following:

1.Downloaded the latest drivers for GPU

2. Downloaded ddu

3. Uninstalled drivers via windows

4. Ran ddu in safe mode

5. Installed new GPU AMD plugged HDMI cable into GPU

6. Booted pc. Everything is running but I'm receiving a no signal screen

is the BIOS setting for default video still auto? Try PEG/PCI as first priority.

I went ahead and plugged the HDMI into the MOBO and booted it up. ran the driver installer and no the GPU will boot and display windows. I will check clock speeds and performance again.

I uninstalled all drivers and driver software for the integrated graphics card (while being plugged into my GPU) and restarted the PC.

it booted windows and under Radeon settings it only shows the GPU, so that is progress.

But after the boot the R7 drivers are reinstalled, so I have to uninstall them again.

Alright guys just testing it with afterburner. During game play my clock speed only hit 425.

This is what I saw 90% of the time I played. The other 10% was at 425mhz

raise the power limit to max and bump up both mem and core just a bit to see if it will force it. also, go through AB setting and tick every single box except the first one.

Around a 3 minute AVG with GPU clock speed bumped to 980 and Memory up to 1450. Power up 10%
