DirectPath on ESXi 5.1 not saving USB adapters

I need to be able to attach USB devices to certain hosts like printers and USB storage. When I first added them and rebooted the server it saved and I was able to add a thumb drive to a host to install an OS. At some point it seems that config vanished. Now when I try to add my USB adapters to the DirectPath config and reboot they just vanish every time. They never get added.

It seems to be working for other devices just fine. I added my video card and it saves and the card itself has already been added to a host machine. It's only USB that is having this issue.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I think I've found the issue... me passing my video card through is giving me that stuck-on-cnic_register problem. I think it's basically causing ESXi to never really finish loading and therefore never loading the USB passthrough.

Nope, that didn't fix it. My USB devices still vanish after the reboot.

Known bug in ESXi 5.1 - downgrade to 5.0 until they fix it.

Ah! Will I be able to downgrade "in place" or is a fresh install required?
