I ordered a new Nikkor 20mm f/1.8 this morning! Amazon says guaranteed delivery on Sunday, which sounds completely insane to me, but I'll take it! :D

Going to take it hiking asap, and camping next week, and will hopefully have some good landscape shots with it to share soon. Can't wait!

I've been using an Olympus E-PL3 for a while, and while it's good, I came to the realization that I'm not interested in juggling lenses and other crap.

Ordered a Leica D-Lux (Type 109) last night. I'm surprised to see a lack of Leica gear in these threads.

why would you order that Leica? you just paid 300-400 dollars extra just for Red Leica logo.

Maybe you don't realize that D-Lux Type 109 is nothing more then Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100.

LX100 is a great camera.

you could have saved a lot of money by buying original gear, instead of re-branded stuff.

^^Oh snap! Yeah, if I ever win the lottery I may look into a full Leica setup. At the moment I'm fairly committed to Nikon. Maybe I'll look into switching systems for my next purchase, probably in about 5 years.

So I just picked up a Nikon D750 this year - finally made the jump to full frame! Loving this thing so far! Great low-light performance, spectacular auto-focusing system, and lots of other bells & whistles, some of which I've been wanting for quite some time like the tilting screen for ground-level shots etc.

I just sold my last/only DX lens (a 10.5mm fisheye) so my other FX lenses are now performing at their intended focal lengths. It feels right. :D

Nikon D750
Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G
Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G
Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR
Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro

I have a long list of glass I'd like to add at this point (a Tamron 150-600mm, a cheap 14mm manual, a better macro in the 150-200 range) but the new body tapped out my new gear budget for a while, so I may just rent a few lenses as the need arises.

Rokinon 14mm

Oh, I just noticed this in your list. That's one I've been eye-balling (and the few others that are almost identical) as a much MUCH cheaper alternative to the 14-24. Honestly since I picked up the new 20mm I've only run into maybe 2 or 3 instances where I wished I had something wider - and I've actually found myself cropping down from the 20mm images in several instances. But I'd like to have something in the bag to get me to the wider end without breaking the bank just in case.

So what were your thoughts on the Rokinon 14? Chromatic aberration? Is the distortion correctable in LR, or is it pretty-much always going to distort straight-lined architecture type stuff? And do you find yourself having to manually focus a lot, or are you able to just set the focus to infinity and leave it there most of the time?

Re: the Rokinon 14mm. It is so wide you have to focus via liveview, everything will look like it is in focus otherwise. My D800's 36mp is picky enough on the focus I wouldn't trust setting it to a hyperfocal value. I haven't used it enough, but it might be worth putting it on a tripod and trying to find a hyperfocal point at 5.6. Put some tape on the barrel and marking the point.

I've already done something like this for infinity for star photos. I noticed on one of my outings the focus for 2.8 was different than 5.6, but I haven't looked into it further.

I find that I think more in a telephoto mindset most of the time, but I've enjoyed the 14mm for night landscapes with the Milky Way. The biggest downer is my D800 and it's 1920x1080 live view with no 1:1 magnification.

Oh, I'm aware of what it is. I'm also aware it has better support, community, build, etc etc.
That being said, I only plan on having a single dedicated camera. Why not make it the best I can afford?

Mine is 'Bower' branded, bought from Fry's and price-matched with Amazon (or B&H, I forget).

Samyang makes them all; Rokinon is the most prominent distributor in the US.

And aside from having to focus in Live View with maximum magnification, along with using the available LR profile to correct distortion, vignetting and CA, the lens delivers:

better build? its build in the same Panasonic Factory using same parts, that red logo must make it a lot more sturdy, its like a root holding all panasonic pieces together

Don't push him too hard, ignorance is bliss ;)

Not to mention, who cares, one persons perception of quality is another's garbage. He may also be attracted by the fact that the Leica is built in Japan vs the lx100 being built in China, I'd go Japanese built as well.

Pretty much. It's not like I pissed in their lemonade, I don't know why they are knocking the camera, or my decision to buy one.

My collection is seriously starting to get out of control.

partially was trying to answer that question.

Real Leica is a expensive niche product, often more of a fashion statement for the rich.

And cheap Leicas are just Panasonic in disguise, just what Hasselblad was trying to do with Sony cameras. that's why you won't see Leica often.

So, it's a Acura vs Honda or Audi vs VW type argument. Either way, you guys were a bit... abrasive in your response.

I want to hear about that EOS-M3 when you get it, nekrosoft13- I actually quite like my EOS-M, but mostly for the size, compatibility, and quality of the 22/2 and 11-22 lenses. Everyone should have the 11-22 for this system, it eats the competition alive!

will do, Friend of mine is in Japan now, should have it after Easter.

I had the original EOS M, and I hated it, I could draw a quick sketch of the scene before that thing would focus on original firmware.

^You're in Atlanta? Crap... if only I had known that a year ago, when I spent a month in Peachtree...

Hah - oops. Yeah, let me know next time. (I only mention living in GA like once a week in genmay, good job paying attention) :p
I may be visiting Chicago some time this summer too btw, not sure how many days I'll be there though. No official plans yet, but one of my siblings may be going to grad-school there, so that's all the excuse I need. :D

Hehe... I must admit, I'm not good with keeping track of who's who, what and where in the world of [H]... unless it's SS time ;)

Do let me know if you decide to visit. Most days, I have a hard time planning anything more than only a few days in advance, but... I can always make myself available to grab some steaks, beers, and maybe even take a picture or two ;)
