Apparently, they are doing a recall and giving people refurb propels/matrix (and possible Vu, cuz someone complained or asked to get that instead.) The reason seems to be someone that someone bought a 3rd party charger and then plugging it in backwards and having it burn out or explode or overheat or something.

Lame trade if you ask me.

psh, some guy got upset because he FORCED the connector into it and something went wrong?

it's stupid people like this that prevent others from having nice things.

Not only that, ATT pulled the quickfire out from their cellphone list, it just wasn't selling up to ATTs own taste. I remember reading it from Engadget... I'll try to get an link up.

Interesting...my 16 year old daughter has that phone ..her first one only lasted 4 weeks before the screen went bad....when I went back to the AT&T store to exchange it, all they had was about 20 bad ones with the same problem....and them and every other store in my area were out of stock for the same reason.....

They all told me the same thing..these phones are having major problems with the slide assy..apparently, the tiny ribbon cables are going bad.....no mention of the charger problems...

we were able to get a new one mailed to us ..this was about 3 weeks ago and I have no doubt this one will go bad also....

when this one does go belly up, I guess she will have to pick another phone.....

Hmm... my brother has had the quickfire for roughly 4 weeks, maybemore, his seems to be doing fine, but if it does happen, that sounds like there is another reason for a recall.

There was a stopsell put on the Quickfire. The charger issue was part of the reason. Apparently the charger was fairly easy to plugin backwards and this would cause it to overheat. That among other quality issues it had caused the decision to be made.

The standard replacements for it currently through warranty are the Propel and the Matrix, which are fairly comparable (minus the touchscreen). If someone wants a touchscreen the Vu is being sent.

What if none of those phones are acceptable?
    Would they offer a refund?
or could you choose another one phone....I'm dealing with a 16 year old girl who is very particular, and dos not want any of those...:(
I plan on going to the AT&t store next week, because her phone is having issues...... again...

Tell her to stop being so ungrateful. At 16, she's lucky you are buying her a phone to begin with.

While you do have a valid point Sean, , I like to spoil my little girl..:) hopefully you get the joy of that one day.....

Anyway, she is not ungrateful, but the phone was a Christmas present , she is a texting maniac, averages about 15k a month.......

The Quickfire is pretty much the only phone she felt comfortable with...

we tried the Vu and the propel, neither of which she liked....and the keyboard on the Matrix is kinda small...

No doubt....I had no idea anyone could text that much.....plus she only uses like 20 minutes of actual talk time....I think all of her friends are mute..:)

The thing is that the warranty replacement group only has a limited number of handsets available in full kits, so even if they wanted to replace it with something outside the standard replacement guidelines at this time, there isn't a garuantee they could do so.

If the handset is within 30 days of purchase (assuming you purchased it directly from AT&T, not a 3rd party reseller) you can return it for a refund and then repurchase a different handset. If you're outside that it's doubtful that the point of sale would make an exception, you could give it a shot though. (Ask for a manager and be cool and collected, explain about your daughter and see what they say)

Looking at the other handsets available, I don't see another slider w/ full qwerty keyboard other than the HTC Fuze, which I'm sure you would agree is a little too advanced for a 16 y/o (no offense). The Matrix looks like the best replacement at the present time, at least if you can't go down the refund route.

I should say, as long as the charger is inserted correctly there aren't any other "recall" type problems. If she isn't having any problems, maybe just let her stick it out with the Quickfire. Heck there might even be a different replacement at a later time (speculation) should she start to have problems down the road.
