Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

I've been trying to get this fucking game started for that last half hour.

I've about had it.

Sometimes the updater stays up and ends up locking up. Sometimes I get as far as the demonic face in the middle of my desktop, and then it locks up. Sometimes, nothing happens when I click on the icon in the 1st place.

What a joke.

I'm starting to have enough of this game as well. I'm now a level 55 Wizard on Hell difficulty, but the idea that I have to farm at least 100k of gold to buy the next item on AH is becoming frustrating. I don't want to farm for days just to buy a piece of gear on AH. Gear that should actually be available in some way in the game itself. (For example at a merchant but at 5 or more times the price of a blue item. I hate leaving the game to go to the AH) It is starting to feel forced.

Having said that, I still had a lot of fun with this game. Got more than 90 hours into it, so I do have to say it was worth the money.

I probably take a break, and try again as different character another time. But to be honest for me personally, only Normal and Nightmare mode feel the most rewarding and fun.

guess its time for me to face the music - blizzard no longer exists and all that is left is the shell of the company that operates in the shadow of activision.

stuck on act 3 of killing the hearts, the maps are too small for tactful parking of elites.

Went back to do 5stack siegebreak runs. I've been getting some pretty good yellows. A couple of 700+ armor pieces with +70 resist and some primary stats. I'm not very quick with the siegebreaker runs yet, but im getting there. A lot of it depends on how lucky I am with finding killable elites. I'll probably be doing 5stack siegebreaker runs throughout the week, at this rate I should be well geared to finish off act 3 and 4 next weekend.

Wasn't this already evident with the release of SC2? No LAN play, account authentication for SP and splitting the campaign into three separate games....all telling signs that the soul of Blizzard was devoured by Activision a long time ago.

Where are the people getting the items you are buying in the auction house?

We finished off Nightmare today and I was a level 46 Demon Hunter, but I can't get into hell since I am not 50 yet.

Also, if you play with friends that are 5-10 levels higher than you, they will get drops that should work great for you.
I purchased a nice Legendary Crossbow in the AH for 40K and used it for a couple of hours then my friend found a Rare Crossbow that that was quite a bit better than mine.
After I was done playing for the night, I went to the AH to sell some stuff and do some browsing and listed the Legendary Crossbow for 70K and it sold in about 10 minutes.

Oh young padawan, you are too young to understand. Come back and ask that question after farming Inferno for hours and you'll realize his complaints are sound.

Okay sorry, I'll be nice. The drops are affected by the Auction House and the expectations of millions of players using it, so they reduced drop rates so the market wouldn't be flooded with the same items. Okay sure, makes sense, right? But the problem is that farming for hours feels less rewarding as you have to sell the stuff you find (since you don't find much for yourself) and then just buy items you want off the AH.

Same here. The closest I've gotten was just a hair before you face the spider woman (not the actual boss fight) but a pack of champs pushed me back to an unescapable state. Well, maybe there was a way to escape it, but decided to save my patience for another day. Whats frustrating is that I was so close to the next checkpoint so I wouldn't have to deal with that zone again, even though there's still 2 more floors of the identical setup lol. I'm farming gold just for the inevitable 500 deaths to get across all the rooms .

I haven't been killing many rares or elites in general though so I'm scared to farm Act 3 until I find some info on how to do it efficiently. I've only managed to kill 4-5 packs throughout all of Act 3 so its kind of scary out there.

Where are the people getting the items you are buying in the auction house?

Loads of people hypothesize that Diablo 3's drops are itemized such that the game is purposefully dropping pieces that are not usable for your class, literally forcing players to use the auction house in lieu of playing the game for items.

This is in lead up to the release of the real money auction house, priming players to get used to the way in which the game operates.

tl;dr Blizz is purposefully forcing you to use the AH so they can make $$

It atleast feels so. I cant even count how many good Dex based items I've got that were ultimately not fitting for my Barb who needs STR and Vit. Instead I have gotten quite a lot of my gear from my brother who plays WD (and complement with AH). At best we can just swap our rarities after coop boss fight and both are happy. :D

Well, I killed Inferno Diablo. Took nearly 150 hours played on my wizard, but at least that is done.

Honestly, I was beating my head against the wall until I bought a pair of lvl 33 legendary bracers for 90 grand that had 7% run speed on them. That plus the 12% on my boots made the entire difference! Now I have a cool sigil for my banner that no one will ever see!

If you are stuck and can't progress, I recommend trying a new spec. I hit many walls that were overcome by rethinking my play style. Also, don't try to kill every elite pack. Some are just not worth it. There is no shame in kiting them out of the way.

If you need gold, especially at level 60, don't try to farm Inferno. Drop back to Act 3/4 of Hell and you will roll mobs. Once your valor buff is at 5, you can make a ton of gold, and even find some useful items to sell. Also, don't worry about the very best gear. You can buy good-enough stuff for WAY less than the primo items. I killed Inferno Diablo with level 33 bracers, 59 belt, 59 ring, and a 59 neck. Wizards are the cheesiest class in the game, though...

Now to decide what class to play next!

Encountered my first pack that I considered as impossible. Leap Burrower that seemed to regenerated his health and with invulnerable minions. Enemy wouldnt have been a problem if he would have just stayed put but instead kept digging underground for a breather leaving his immortal lackies kicking my ass.

For a person who is used to exploring every single corner and slaughtering every single enemy in Diablos, that was a frustrating experience.

Well I've been farming act I Inferno for a few days now. I can run from the start to finish killing every elite/champion mob I come past, and I've been getting some pretty decent items for my barb as well. I'm at 75K health, 6K armor and around 400 res.

I've tried act 2 solo and just get destroyed constantly. Its such a huge upgrade in damage etc. from the mobs its kind of ridiculous. Trying it with others is even worse as they usually don't have the greatest gear and just get stomped even harder than I do.

I've had a lot of fun playing this game so far, and have been defending blizzard from the start because i've felt like the game has captivated me well enough. I'm starting to lose a little interest though, mainly due to the items and their lack of complexity. Its already been stated numerous times but i feel as though item grinding is going to get pretty aggravating in the near future.

Does act 3 or 4 start to give you consistently lvl 60 gear? or is it more of the same luck of the draw concept being employed in act I.

Wholeheartedly, this.

Agreed that the game is losing my interest, I even stopped at 58 for about a week and never logged back in to the game. I just hit 60 this past weekend and decided to take a step in to inferno to see what it was like.

When I started act II of inferno, I was like.. the damage output is so fucking insane--especially since in act I, I pretty much did the same and facerolled the entire act. That includes crazy elites that I had no business killing.

In act II, all the res in the world couldn't stop me from dying. I even used war cry w/ resist buff which put me at 70% and I was still getting destroyed.--Barbs are just too squishy--it doesn't help we have to get in melee range to kill everything. :(

I am fairly sure that Act III and IV have the same loot table(s) as act I & II--has been a large complaint from others. Although, I do believe 60 gear is more consistent.

--

I think I might have to do as Jolli mentioned and farm hell Acts III & IV to get some gold so I can defeat the auction house boss.

I've only been able to farm packs in act 1 inferno on my poorly geared wizard and its mostly fine except when I get retarded affixes which happens all the time

You know how many pieces I've gotten from actually playing the game? 1 from a goblin, I got 2 rings from a vendor because I'm not paying 2 billion gold for 1 single ring on the AH.......how many pieces did I get from the auction house? 10

10 out of the 13 pieces from the auction house

It's not intended that you play the game and get gear that you can actually use to progress with. You're going to get gear for other classes that you're supposed to trade on the AH, General chat, group for your gear. That way it's like a MMO where your participation in the game is based around the participation of others.

Around June 12th you'll be able to trade on the RMAH and at that point you can stop farming gold. For $5, $20, $100, $500 you can buy that special piece of gear that you always wanted. I'm sticking my pieces up for $20 - $100 if I get something good. So don't worry about the current lack of gear. Most players are probably hoarding it for the RMAH.

ActiBlizzion has 100% 24/7 full control of loot creation, item drop rates and the RMAH, with no third party over sight and no real guarantee drops aren't rigged other than their worthless word. They have every incentive and motivation to do everything possible to ensure items sell for the highest possible value in order to take a bigger commission. It's obvious they have to walk a tight rope in order to appear like it's a free/fair market, but the truth is once the market becomes saturated and prices start to tank, they will have no choice but to yank the leash and tweak the algorithms or whatever system they are using in order to maintain a stable economy. It doesn't take a Ben Bernanke to firgure this out, because if they don't the economy will simply tank in no time at all. Even in the real world economy governements use many tools like manipulating interest rates and such in order to keep dollar inflation in check. If the RMAH is left completely to the players, gold inflation will go thru the roof making the grind for gear a waste of time. The RMAH is such a huge conflict of interest that it should be illegal, it's nothing but unregulated gambling with real money. Kids will buy items with real cash in hopes of flipping it and a wild swing in the market either due to internal or external manipulation attempts will determine their sellable worth. The real stock market is already enough of a casino, imagine if the traders making the commission were the same ones creating their own imaginary companies that they can create stock that can be made more of or make vanish at the push of a button depending on daily supply and demand values that ultimately determine their worth. This is just a bad idea on so many levels, why do you think the government outlawed real money online poker sites where the house took a cut from winnings of games they themselves also administered. This is a tycoon simulator plain and simple, everyone I know that still plays this agrees how boring it is, but yet endure it like a job in hopes of making a killing off kids and noobs once the RMAH comes online. I guess money is the root of all evil afterall and Diablo, the devil himself will soon have his own printing press.

From reading the forums for this game on other sites, I've seen the discussion go from farming loot to farming gold in less than a week. Claiming the auction house is completely optional is a bold face lie, how can you farm for gear if the good gear is all on the auction house for sale because all of the no life grinders already beat you to it. D2 the loot tables were in the code of the game installed on your computer, chinese gold farms and dupe sites had zero impact on my ability to find epic loot for my character, sadly the same can't be said about D3.

Agreed - even if I was still interested in playing things would get even crazier when the RMAH came online. No thanks. Refund in progress :)

The main reason cash based gambling was outlawed is the simple fact that the government couldn't get a cut of it. Pretty much anything the government can't (easily) make money on they aren't interested in supporting (or allowing) Same reason we can't buy the same exact drugs from canada or overseas without a hassle because someone has a friend in the US government who's corrupt enough to pass jacked up laws so a few people get rich.

I may only be 30 years old but looking back at our history, things have been on a steady decline in terms of equity, greed, corruption, and just overall dick moves.

The big picture is that free markets for all intents and purposes don't exist anymore. Everyone is always trying to game the system or pull strings to get rich.

Life on hit > Life steal %

There's a 80% nerf to life steal in inferno. Meaning if you did 100k damage with an ability that gives 100% return with %3 lifesteal, you only get equivalent 600hp back. From what I read, there is no life on hit nerf (for now), Meaning a +600 life on hit weapon is better unless you're pushing 100k+ damage each hit (with abilites that yield 100% of lifesteal). I was wondering why my life return felt so slow.

I'll be doing siegebreaker runs until i can find (or afford) a 850+ dps weapons with 600+ lifesteal. Sold an item for 1M yesterday, and can do siegebreaker 5-stacks in about an hour, so it shouldn't take to long to find a decent weapon

Just finished on normal. Level 32 WD. Solo the whole way with only found/forged in game weapons and armor. Tough at the end for me, but it's finally over.:)

LOL

I ran into a combo the other day that I considered impossible the other day too. It was Invuln minions/ damage reflect/ extra health / fast. Essentially the 4 worst things I could ask for as a DH. Unfortunately, it was in an area that I couldn't just suicide kite it to a corner, so I could get by. Ended up having to just leave the game.

I know Inferno is supposed to be hard and all, but honestly it borders on simply unfair at times. Sure, DH's are one of the better classes right now, but anything past Act I on Inferno is basically like playing a bullet hell game with 1/10th of the control that you should have. Dying instantly because you make one tiny mistake gets extremely frustrating after a while. I played through Dark Souls not long ago, and while it is very difficult, it never seems unfair like Diablo does. When you die, you realize that it was your fault....random mob that you can't see on your screen didn't just charge and 1-shot you.

Im done with this shit. After all those years in development this game is a total garbage. Everything is a mess. Mobs affix is fucking random? immune to all? the fuck are they thinking. Game is mean to be hard yes that i know but is not mean to be impossible. And the loot system is stupid. Blue is better than yellow. The rare legendary had no purpose in this game other than bragging right same goes with the green. lvl 55 items are better than lvl 60 items. I'm in inferno and had been farming for the last 4 days and i didn't find a single item that is good enough for me to replace the stuff i got in hell mode. Even most of the blue found in inferno is shit compare to the one in hell. The company that i respected the most had totally thrown them self out the fucking window. RMAH is a fucking joke. Who the fuck gonna spend read hard earn cash for something from a company that got hacked in day 1 release. Only dumb ass who haven't realize that blizzard just ripped them off $60 dollars on the original game. Can't wait for Torchlight 2 to save the day.

There's a lot of hate for this game. I look at it like this. Yes, they tied drop rates to the auction house. So obviously legendary items drop less. But you still don't HAVE to use the AH. You just have to spend more effort trying to get an item. The item will eventually drop, it's just going to require more grinding. If you want X item now, then yes, you have to use the AH. I enjoy getting a drop more when I've worked toward it. But I'm patient.

I'm more of a casual player. So when I log on to play for a couple hours, it doesn't ruin my day if I don't get a super item. I know that I'll just hope for it next time. I think some extremely hardcore players just want the items NOW, so they an do X NOW. It's all relative to your amount of patience.

I for one am enjoying the game, and I can see that some people are turning it into a joyless grindfest with need for constant gratification. In those cases, I don't think those people would every really be happy regardless of what Blizzard added or changed. It's meant to be fun, which it is.

Wait until Torchlight 2 comes out. There will be a tidal wave of hate. Either stuff drops too easy and lessens the "eliteness" you feel, or stuff never drops. People take these GAMES way too seriously.

Starting to really enjoy the gold-houses spamming the general chat that I am now automatically logged into. Good lord. DO they even care about this stuff? It's been going on in WoW for years...

Somebody's mad

The game is pretty boring at 60 though, especially since it crashes every time I get 5 stacks of n. valor.

It's odd b/c many asked for a harder difficulty than Diablo 2 (only Ubers was tough) and now that they got it, everyone is complaining. For the WoW players who have no idea what Ubers are, just look up a Youtube video. Probably the one difficult PvE experience in D2.

*On note - there were 'easier' Act 1 areas to run in D2, if you were undergeared. I.e. "Pits" in Act 1 of D2. ATM, in Diablo 3 you have no choice but to run the higher acts for better drops, which is probably my one complaint. At least with Pits, higher ilvl gear could still drop.

Just watch what happens when Blizz will (inevitably) nerf Inferno, and it's too easy. People will still be complaining. Consider that everyone is WAY under-geared for Inferno, except for Act1. Notice how easy Act1 is once you have decent gear? Are you absolutely sure you want Inferno to be easier?

Give it a 3 months (especially with Blizz not adopting a Ladder system for D3). If it's still impossible, maybe we revisit this conversation, but I for one love that there's actually difficulty to the standard PvE experience for once.

I have alteast reported and blocked every single spammer that I've come across (right click their names on the chat box). Not sure it does any good and if Blizzard ever takes care of them though.

I like how Blizzard thinks forcing us to auto-join "General" is supposed to be a good thing haha. It is pretty funny seeing noobs posting "How much is this worth" followed by "charsi".

I like watching people rage over Inferno. They told you it was going to be *near impossible* so take it. If it was easier then people would be done with the game and say "it's too easy". There is never a perfect middle ground for people.

They've already announced that it will be patched so it remembers when you leave the channel.

There is a difference between hard and impossible.

for me its not that inferno is too hard, its that you cant get the gear to do act 2 from act 1 as a melee character. 500 dps at the most weapons are not enough to effectivly handle act 2. so as a monk you have to rely on people that can kite mobs like DH's to farm act 3 and put items up on the AH so you can do act 2 ect.

i still dont have act 2 on farm and ive been clearing act 1 for awhile now. i can clear act 1 and most of the elite packs in my gimp set of 250% magic find and 1 shot the butcher and still never get any loot that will help me take on act 2. the 4 legendarys ive found have been a joke and wernt even worth the time to salvage them.

and atleast for now until someone is swimming in gold crafting is a waste, 170k to craft 1 dagger.

100% QFT!!!! Melee has the shaft in Inferno compared to ranged classes. Our gear reqs are stupid.

I dont think inferno is ridiculously bad, its just that the monsters have way too much health to be able to do anything against the champion packs. I mean, I cant even imagine a 4 person coop in inferno, might as well not even try. If they tone down the health of champion packs, It would make inferno more possible.

They got a little crazy in this game with the HP scaling. They need it toned down in both hell and inferno. 4 person coops in both difficulties just give the monsters way way too much HP. I can deal with them doing crazy damage, its just that they have borderline godmode HP.

I dont think inferno is ridiculously bad, its just that the monsters have way too much health to be able to do anything against the champion packs. i actually tend to ignore peoples party invites just because it can take for ever to kill stuff some times, i perfer to solo and actually kill stuff in a timely manner, 2 players isnt too bad but more than that it gets a bit crazy to kill some stuff if everyone cant pull their weight.

Lol.

Blizzard implements online-only play so players can jump in for co-op at any time...

...play alone anyway because it's too hard otherwise. :D
