Is there such a thing? I know I could run third party software, but I'd rather not have to. I know how to set it up on a win2003 server, and 2000server, I was just wondering if there's the same thing in XP, I can't seem to find it.

If not, any suggestions for a good/free third party app.

This is to be put onto a dedicated ghost server that will be networked via a switch only to the client machines.

Thanks for the help, all.

Since windows XP is a client O/S, there is no built-in DHCP server (in of itself).

I guess you could use ICS temporarily for this purpose, but i don't know how much control you have over the dhcp options.

Here is a free dhcp server that runs on windows.... ymmv.

Didn't 2kpro have a DHCP server though? I just kinda figured that if it did, XP would too.

Nope. win2kpro didn't have this either. Neither did winnt 4 and 3.5 (never ran 1.0)

If you want server applications you will need a server OS. Not much simpler than that.
