DFI-Street Gives DFI the boot

One can only guess. From what is posted, it looks like DFI was using dfi-street as their tech-support forum without providing any compensation?

So glad I just bought 2 DFI boards in the last month. :(

How long's it been? It could just be a database error- one of the sites I visit regularly just had some serious downtime the other day. ;)

I will venture to guess it is just a maintenance thing or a temporary problem.

No, there was a fairly nasty message with peoples email and full names posted a few minutes ago - but looks like it either crashed or the admin has taken that down.

I saved a copy though. ;)

Of course you realize that by saying that, you're making me pull this out for the second time today... (Not that, you sick bastards! :p)

I will post when I get home tonight, if an admin here says its ok. I have a screenshot, but it contains peoples names and email so I don't want to post it hastily...

There has been some bad blood over at dfi-street. Thread over at xtremesystems got deleted, but from what I read the guy who runs dfi-street, happy/angry games was mouthing off big time about DFI firing people, and probably about to boot all US DFI tech support except two guys, one who barely knows about oc'ing, and one who can barely speak english and knows absolutely nothing about oc'ing.

It was a pretty long and nasty rant. No pics, but I saw it with my own eyes. Then dfi-street was taken down not long after. It started over at XS on a thread about the dfi ati rd600 board.

I can concur I saw the post before the server went offline. I think he took it down because there were emails to all the high level DFI employees.

Edit: Here is the text

News Update: January 5th, 2007

As of today, DFI has decided that honesty and integrity are not their cup of tea.

DFI and DFI-Street.com have parted ways because of this.

If you are at all inclined to complain about the situation, here are some email addresses that you should send letters to:

Frank Wong - DFI USA Support Manager
frankwong@dfiweb.com

Ed Huang - Head of North American DFI Operations:
edhuang@dfiweb.com

YC - CEO of DFI (Taiwan):
YC@dfi.com.tw

DFI-Street.com will no longer be supporting DFI products unless your emails generate a response from DFI HQ and they decide to continue to purchase advertising or support help.

In the meantime, DFI-Street.com is now available for open advertising, or even for outright purchase.

If you are interested in a joint-venture of content or wish to use DFI-Street's heavy enthusiast traffic base to promote your products, please contact me via telephone:

**********

and leave a voice message with your name, telephone number, and any pertinent information as to the nature of your call.

Travis "Happy_Games" Hill

@#$%in' pisses me off!!!!! There were YEARS worth of research on that forum in the OC database! BAAAAAHHHHH!!! It just came out of nowhere too!! CRIPES!!!

Priceless. :p

Here's an email i got back from Frank...

Dear Customer,

Thanks for your E-mail. First of all, www.dfi-street.com is owned by Mr. Travis Hill (Angry_Game). We paid him as a contractor to support our customers on his forum for years. Recently, he posted some improper message on the forum that hurts the relationship between www.dfi-street.com and DFI. That’s why we terminate the contract with him starting from 1/4/07. We’ll have another forum to support DFI M/B users later.

Thanks again

Frank Wong

Damn wasn't expecting that.............. Hopefully they figure something out. There is way to much valuable information in that site to just be lost forever. Good thing I kept my pics from the ocdb.

I'll let Frank know he can have a [H] forum if they will get some honest mods in place. :)

So it looks like DFI actually gave DFI-street the boot. I guess that's the fine line you walk down when you're being paid by someone. You can't really say what you think or else you lose your job.

the forum was half the reason I bought a DFI board. without the technical expertise and support of the people there, I will no longer buy DFI boards. they are simply too much of a beast to handle without any place for support and collaboration.

and I bet this is the story with many other computer enthusiasts. I hope the people over at DFI get the message.

You also have to view it from Angry's side to. You have the people who bought just because Bob's review site said it was the board to get to overclock and had no clue what they were getting into as well as the people who did the research and knew. THe complaining was from those who had no clue as well as the ones who did. I for one bought more than 1 Dfi board because of the support that they gave. While sometimes Games could be a bit short to just plain rude aren't all of us the same way some time or another. You get the same crap in the asus and abit forums that you got at DFIstreet. If i remmember correctly Mr Hill was on DFI's payroll as their US support rep. Then Rgone was tapped to become an Employee. I for one am sad to see the site go away.

I guess it comes down to what Happy_Games/Mr. Hill said. Let's face it, as a paid employee, I can't just go into my boss's office and say whatever I want and then expect nothing to happen. Possible overreaction on DFI's part? Probably. Plus, we're not getting the whole story. The fact that in the e-mail posted above, the US support rep of DFI changed the guy's handle to "Angry_Games" makes it sound like it's blown up to the point where a high level employee has lowered himself to name calling in a response to a "random" e-mail from a consumer makes me think the problem is probably very personal...likely ego driven on both sides.

well actually Travis did go by "Angry_Games" for a while on DFI street. he only recently changed to Happy_Games a few months ago

Angry_Games was travis's original handle on the street. And I was kinda shocked when the second email I received from Frank was actually a typed out message and not an automated response. Hopefully they can work something out and get the forum back up and if not dfi on here sounds like a good combo.

Fair enough :). I guess it just struck me as odd that they would go back a few months like that. Oh well.

I guess since we don't know what was said, we can't really know what happened. I hope they reopen it in some capacity even if DFI buys the rights (and more importantly the database).

That was one of the recommendations I made if and only if they couldn't work something out.

This was a complete SHOCK to me. I've been posting on there daily for the last year.

I'm doing my part in sending e-mails to various DFI employees.

I honestly don't think they know what they're losing in terms of support.

This was not the first time they have had issues with Travis. He's a cocky arrogant computer guy that thinks his poo does not stink.

I guess they finally had enough and moved on.

This shouldn't really come as a surprise at all.

He was arrogant, and he could be a prick, but he was a good guy and did more for the enthusiast community than can be measured.

Could be? He was all the time. He needed to have a better attitude towards DFI's customers. He belittled and demeaned everyone that came in with a question. That is not good business practices. DFI cut their losses, no matter how good a guy can be. They just cannot have someone running around trying to help the company when you are actually hurting it.

Rgone is running things now, he will have a support base. He will be a lot better than Travis was.

Just how business is.

Hey man, I am tired of you saying this shit about m......oh wait, nevermind. ;)

On a side note, Frank is aware of my offer and said would get in contact if our services are needed. :) So there you go, he is aware of the offer.

Well, you only know him from what you've heard other people say. I had a little over 3,000 posts there, and yes, he was arrogant and borderline asshole, but that wasn't all the time. I found him to be a little likable, actually. In any case, I'm not going to argue about it.

I know him more than just what I have heard. I have sent him hardware and talked to him on the phone and through e-mails.

I didn't stray from the truth. He was on his high horse all the time and DFI knocked him off for good.

Good for DFI and I hope Rgone and team, the best of luck.

travis was like this because he was honest about it thus his cocky-self.

but he was good at would he did.

I bought DFI mobos based on reviews I read here, and also the support that street had for me. I knew going in that it was an elitist's product, and you had to go into the forum like going to the "soup nazi". I always had one hand over my head waiting to be stricken or something. I learned a lot though.

It doesn't matter if you are the best at what you do, you treat customers like he did, it won't last long and they'll finally drop you. Because there's people out there that do the job as well or better that will have a better attitude towards others.

Just common sense.

if anyone wants to help me i am trying maybe to rebuild the dfi-street again??

pm-me.
