Once upon time computers had "IDE mode" option in BIOS. This was for Windows users, they were supposed to use IDE mode to boot, then install AHCI driver and then set this option to AHCI. This IDE mode was not meant to be used after initial Windows install. I don't know what you have there, maybe this IDE mode is causing your problem.
