Developer acting like 5 year old...

Long story short:
Some time ago I bought Hearts of Iron 3 (WW2 strategy) from Paradox - game was horribly broken at release and was never patched to the state where it wouldnt contain gamebreaking bugs.

Today they released expansion called Semper Fi (it cost 20 bucks) which promised to fix most problems.

Many of HoI3 problems are still present in Semper Fi. For example submarine warfare is still broken, Japan is always defeated by china etc.

When I posted problems I found in Paradox forums I was banned for it and all my posts were deleted, none of those posts contained even single rude word and I didnt break any forum rules, but because some admin was having power trip and didnt like my criticism I was banned.

Problem with being banned is that to access MP server you have to use your forum login which is tied to you CD key so without it you are screwed...

Good example of shitty moderator/developers. Just have to take note of it and move on.

I was able to confirm that it was developer who banned me.

That company wont see any money from me in the future....

Much like the game it expands, it seems Semper Fi was thrown out the door too early. I see a few other complaint threads have disappeared as well. They have to try to hide the truth to make the release day rush as lucrative as possible. Paradox makes some great games, too bad it usually takes a goddamn year or more before they work properly.

Making it lucrative by disabling the game for those who speak the truth but keeping their money regardless sounds more like stealing.

Wow! So you can't play multiplayer now? That is a dick move.

Take them to small claims court. Get your $20 back. Sure it's not worth the effort for the money, but it might be satisfying enough to make it worth it.

Stealing, indeed! Sadly this seems to be standard practice for most game devs these days. Not all of them act like children and ban those who criticize their work. But the "release broken product... cash in... *maybe* fix it later" approach seems to be becoming the rule rather than the exception now.

They are in Sweden so anything official would just be too expensive. I will find some other way to get even with them...

 
You tried logging into the MP? I can't see a forum ban equating to a ban from the MP, but I guess I could be wrong.

Yes I tried - "incorrect username or password" - both username and password are correct (I use this password for years).

 
there obviously has to be some one higher up in the company then the game developer.. i would try to find a way to contact them.. because thats bullshit..

resetting isnt going to do anything.. the accounts banned.. thus no longer exists.. your forum login is linked to your MP login so the asshat probably banned the account completely..

Well if you have screenshots, chat/forum logs anything really; Get together what evidence you have got and start mailing out to game sites/blogs/tech sites etc.
I'm sure some of them will *byte* and if someone else is in the same boat as you; Great get them to do it as well.
 
eh, seen some similar power trip crap on borderlands forums, although they in no way tie to your game copy. Complain and try to get your account fixed. Don't bother with the forums again and don't bother with any future products from them.

I didnt expect any problem for that post (no rude word, no discussion of forbidden topics etc.) and when I refreshed forum thread was gone and my accouint banned.

I already looked for it in google cache but its not there (it was in forum for maybe 15-30 minutes).

 
Try contacting the devs, and if no response I'd try contacting one of the gaming news sites and see if they won't help you get something started.

Your only recourse is to spread this around the internet, on every forum you can find. Just remember not to behave like an asshat so people remain empathetic towards you. (Not that you behaved like an asshat here, just don't turn into one when share your story.)

I'm gonna have to back this, definitely try to get this out there and just get tons of bad PR on them going.

Everything was deleted (even Google cache doesnt have it) - it was at forum for 15-30 minutes before it was deleted with my entire account, so pretty much only thing I can do is complain at forums about it.

 
i'd also tell any online news sites about this (cant thinkof any) but im sure if you get your storey out the dev's will be kissing your ass to make u stop.
 
I read the sticky in their forums and i don't see it's necessary to register your cd-key other than to access the multiplayer sub-forums and such. Even the homepage for HOI 3 makes no mention of needing to register your key on the forums to play multiplayer.

It seems to me the developer banned, not only your forum account, but went out of the way to ban your cd-key from the authentication servers.

I would definitely email support for the reason behind this as your key is legit.
 
Pretty bad design to link the forum and game accounts like that. And even if they do, banning the forum account should not restrict access to the game.
 
Sometime it is a poorly trained moderator; while the moderator might be an employee of the company it might not be representative of the company policy in general. Btw I have no clue about this company as I never play any of their games; but I would at least give them a shadow of a doubt until yo know more.

Yep. I still suspect the person who did this didn't grasp the complete ramifications of his actions...
 
Paradox is good developer - its just that when as a customer I am being treated like shit and being promissed things that developer must know he cant deliver I wont trust them anymore.

Update: I was told (via PM to my new account) that I wil get final decision on wednesday. One thing is for sure - I wil never again pay full price for Paradox game and I will wait to buy it for 8 bucks during Steam sale.

I am going to close this thread.

I would like to thank to all who discussed here respectably.
