Activision and Bungie are celebrating Destiny’s one-year anniversary by offering a free copy of the game until November 18. Those who already own the game will receive an exclusive Year 1 Blizzard Battle.net Emblem.

"We know Destiny players that want to play on PC expect an amazing experience, whether it’s on their own or with their friends—so, our paramount concern was to keep the discerning requirements of the PC community in mind, and welcoming the Battle.net and Bungie PC communities together," Destiny 2: Forsaken game director Steve Cotton said. "With this gift we look forward to seeing new Guardians in our universe."

I’ll check it out but won’t do much, my time in the game is better spent on the PS4 version.

It’s not a bad free game really. A decent amount of content in the vanilla base game.

Finally. This game is so expensive and I hated playing it at 30fps to play with friends.

I was waiting for this. Always wanted to give the PC version a shot after the beta ran so well but ended up buying it for PS4 to play with other people I knew.

It's free cause the game has essentially failed, and it failed cause people are sick of grinding. This is not a fun game mechanic.

    "Please play our game."

It has been free on Playstation 4 and PC now. They're trying to boost the sales of their latest DLC by letting you experience the base game. This has essentially become an extended "demo" of the full game now.

But its still free so I can't complain too much.

I used to like destiny. D2 was such a step backwards. They lost all of the progress of d1. I didnt care anymore when i played d2 at pax. I wasnt even mad. It felt so lacking.

Not worth it even it's free.

Dammit I hoped I would be able to say this first.

It came free with my 1080ti or something.

I think I've got like 3 hours invested in it.

I've played through 98% of it solo. Just so you know, you don't have to team up with others.

Grinding is the Blizzard motto. You have to work for it. It also keeps you invested in the game. Much better than the pay to win model.

Grinding isn't really the problem, it's the poor design that works against it and poor rewards to begin with that's caused it to fail.

The problem isn't the gamess profit model, but the way it's implemented. Unfortunately there are very few P2W examples that come close to making the game as fun for non-paying players as they are for paying players which comes down to a difference in ideals and decision-making power between game designers and their employers. The P2P/B2P model allows for more designer freedom because they don't need to work with a consulting team to partition off [as many] portions of the game and still find a way to make the majority of content engaging.

Warframe is a good example of what a fun/successful loot-based game that has optional micro-transactions can be. With enough grinding, you can have access to all developer "cash shop" content through trading for cash-currency on the player-based market. The only cash exclusives are a handful of cosmetic pieces that are tied to special bundles and player-created cosmetics approved for in-game release.

Yes they do. When you try to claim the game, they block you until you set up SMS security....on top of requiring you to install their authenticator app.

Yeah... Same..I couldn't resist free... Fuck I already feel it digging it's hooks into me. The thing is I rationally recognize it really isn't a great game and had some serious flaws... Yet I find it irresistibly fun.

The enemies will also fight each other with tons of reinforcements (sometimes) and that's entertaining to me. You can aggro them, of course, and kill them but it didn't seem like they forget their battle, it just chaotic.

I didn't have to install their app to get access. I DID have to log into a long forgotten battle.net account and verify using 2 factor authentication. (which I am happy to see becoming a standard!)

Don't they have customers in China? Can they use a Google authenticator?

This is empirically wrong. I do not have sms security nor the authenticator and I claimed it with no issue.

I Did the same with Destiny 1 and the expansions, minus the last one when I had already stopped.

I even played D 1 solo all the way through, you just can't do raids and instances ......otherwise the entire story is able to be completed 100% on your own. PvP, never even played it on Xbox One. There are other guys playing while you play in the world but you don't have to group up at all.
