Just thought I should create a thread for all of the upcoming comments about the just released Dell U3011 LCD monitors.

Technical Specifications
You can check out my initial impressions here.

Note: Make sure to check your mailboxes for the latest Dell catalog. The 15% off electronics and accessories should work on this monitor!

Are you sure about that? The 20 percent off coupon didn't work for the 3011 so I'm wondering if all the coupons don't apply for the 3011.

I used a 15% off coupon when I ordered mine. There is indeed a chance that it won't work any longer.

I was drooling over this badboy earlier.

It would replace my 2405FPW I ahve had for over 5 years now.

The review I found tests it as having an input lag of 27ms though. This sounds a bit high if you play games (though I do admit I don't have much of a frame of reference when it comes to input lag, and I have no idea what kind of input lag my current monitor has.)

Can anyone provide any insight as far as input lag goes?

Zarathustra[H], I setup a U3011 side by side with a Hanns.G HW-191APB TN monitor. I fired up Left 4 Dead 2 and StarCraft 2 and I honestly couldn't notice any input lag. I also hooked up my XBOX360 and tested Halo: Reach and the game looked stunning with no discernible lag. As far as PC and console gaming goes, I found the U3011 to be absolutely outstanding.

Imho, the only negative thing about the U3011 is the overly aggressive anti-glare coating. The AG coating is MUCH stronger than the coating on both the Hanns G TN and the Acer AL2016W TN monitors I use at work. Images on the U3011 look RAZOR sharp, but light colors have a strong "sparkle" effect. I had a someone else do a comparison as well and they agreed the U3011 has a much more noticeable "sparkle" than the Hanns.G I had sitting next to it, so I know it's not just my imagination.

If you don't mind a somewhat aggressive AG coating, this is a MUST BUY display. But if you are sensitive to AG coatings, the U3011 is probably not your best bet.

I play a lot of BF:BC2 lately and I don't notice any input lag running on its native resolution of 2560x1600. In regards to the AG coating, I find it to be minimal and doesn't distract at all. I am really sensitive to abnormalities in image and text quality whether it be gaming, programming or designing - but at the same time, I really don't notice it. Sure when you have a white background, you do see some sparkle, but I do feel that the pros of AG coating outweigh the cons.

The only way to be sure if it'll bother you is to see the monitor (or 3008wfp) for yourself before you decide on the purchase.

Still trying to find a coupon that works for 15 or 20 percent. Any luck guys?

I guess I got lucky with the 15% off coupon I used. I found another Dell catalog with another 15% off coupon, but it wouldn't work. Maybe Dell adjusted the coupon to be NOT compatible with this monitor.

In the regard of input lag; simply stating "that I don't notice it" doesn't really mean anything. It's a simple fact that if your using a 27ms input lag monitor versus an opponent with a 0ms input lag monitor, you will always be ~2 frames behind them in everything you do, at all times. You are starting out at a disadvantage before the game even starts.

Now if you are playing Hello Kitty Online that most likely doesn't mean much, but saying I don't notice input lag; that is of no help. Input lag is only tested objectively for a reason.

I know it doesn't mean anything. Just stating from my perspective and experience. Also not many people are using CRT monitors. Most LCD monitors still have input lag of varying degree either way.

Just jumped on this bandwagon. Upgrading from a 2405. I also bought 2 side monitors, 2007fp. Can't wait for the entire lot to come. I got 19% off of the entire deal when going through my small business account. =)

On the U2711 at least the AG coating is a disaster.
Ruins the product, imo.

So you are a zealot about this. Most people aren't.

This is the same coating as millions of other IPS monitors from LG/NEC/HP/Dell etc...

What is so comical is that it took you weeks to figure out it was a disaster.

I've been living at work. Past couple of months haven't really been my own :)

All the Samsung monitors I have show none of this. If THIS is IPS - which I know it's not because the Apple display does not show this - then IPS would be on the trash heap imo.

Its an AR coating. Apple doesn't have one as they are glossy and have lots of reflections.

All current LG IPS matte monitors have the same AR coating. Since LG makes just about all current IPS computer monitors, this applies to every AR equipped IPS monitor. Millions of them that don't seem to be causing most people trouble.

If it is junk to you now, sell it, or look for the instructions on peeling off the AR coating(involves taking it apart and soaking screen with wet towels for hours). Someone in this forum peeled his AR coating off and had a glossy-reflective panel underneath.

People who complain about AG coating are the same types who thought their first TN panel's colours were great because the screen was glossy and reflective as glass.

I received my U3011 last Friday. Its colors blew me away. My previous display was a Westinghouse LVM-37W3SE. No competition, even with a 7" advantage.

The AR was very noticable when I did my pixel tests with plain color backgrounds. But that was when I had my eyes like 2 inches away from the screen. At normal use of around 3 feet away, I got no complaints!

No dead pixels on my U3011 either!

Have two Cinema displays right now but 1. I suck at using two big monitors effectively and 2. my desk is by a window, oops. Thinking about a single U3011 but concerned with the price tag - have there been any sales/discounts/etc, on it to get it below the $1499 mark? If not I might go to the 27" Dell model, $500 is a lot to pay for 3".
