I've been to porn sites with less views! Talk about a tease! All we get is the windows boot window! Give us some eye candy! Far Cry, HL2, D3, something.

How is teh 2005fpw contrast ratio? How does it perform when playing dark games such as D3?
The contrast ratio is 600:1, which is 50% better than the 2001fp. Mine is due tomorrow, so I will find out soon enough.

What the heck am I doing wrong? I am trying to use my coupon code and it is giving me hell. It is a valid unused coupon code, but somehow I am not meeting the "requirements". This is strange..... Is it supposed to deduct the coupon now or does it do it later?

*edit* NM everything is good. Got mine ordered! Thanks guys for letting me in on this great deal!!!

Well I felt really guilty about using a 25% off code someone else posted earlier so I played the game for another 2 FREAKING HOURS and got this code here:
20% off any Dell Flat Panel

Code: $91TC7KDH7XV08

Unfortunately it is only 20% not 25% but its better then nothing. Anyway since im a n00b im fine with another newb using it.

Just also wanted to say that I came across this forum when I initially begin searching for LCD moniters about 3 weeks ago and I really think it is a great forum. I plan to be here a long time :)

Ok.. so I ordered mine last Wednesday. Thanksgiving was Thursday, and we had the weekend. And now my order has shipped and is supposed to be here today!! Thats 6 days, one of which was a major holidy, and a weekend, and its still going to be here in 6 days. Thats pretty amazing. I guess It helps I live so close. :)

Heh, 4 hours from their warehouse, to my local UPS warehouse. Which is about 15 mins from me.

I currently have a 2001FP. Ill put them side by side and post some pics. Something I was looking for when I bought this, but couldnt find. Its may not be till Wed evening that I can do a "review" between the two, but Ill snap some pics for you guys to compare.

After using mine for the past 18 hours or so, I love it. I love the colors, and loved hooking up my xbox into the composite and playing halo2 in the picture in picture box. Not the biggest thing in the world but very cool. Didn't look too good full screen though. Only have doom3 installed and it looked very good. Now I need to justify getting an SLI setup to push some really good numbers.

I got mine today... just to let everyone know waiting for one...... I don't have any bad pixels or fading in the corners...it's perfect.

My UPS man needs to hurry his ass up, sometimes he doesnt get here til 7pm.

Likewise. :D

Not to question anyone's word, but pictures of a 2005fpw showing a dark movie would be a whole lot better than saying "mine's got no problems." We all saw how the guy on page 1 thought everthing was peachy when it was very bad. And it may be that people are playing games or doing something on the desktop where the problem isnt as readily apparent. We just don't know unless people post pictures of a dark application.

ok guys, went looking on ebay to look for a nice sized tft, found a dell 2001fp for a 'good' price and later saw the shipping info. seemed it was shipping streight from the US, does that mean that the dell screens use an universal power converter? just wandering if you could check in the manual of the screen to see if its got 240v in the spec.? if so any guess at shipping costs to the uk?

stu

I just ordered mine on Monday and it shipped today and shall be here on Wednesday!!! I will have it in my hot little hands tomorrow afternoon! Is it wrong to get wood over a piece of computer equipment?

THIS MONITOR ROCKSSS!!!!! I have no problems with it whatsoever except it doesent show greens that well. Sometimes the greens look really weird

Also my contrast is locked at "50"

Worst problem is that my 9800 isint enough to handle the monitos native res in new games

I posted this already in the "roll call" thread, but I really like my monitor so I'll post it again here :)

I added both fullsize (1600x1200) images to my gallery if you want to check them out.

Also, as I've noticed on some other LCDs (this is my 8th LCD) that when you use DVI, it will lock out the contrast settings. I don't know why, but I've seen it before.

Has anyone here used the s-video input with a PS2 or xbox .. ?
I'd like to know if it gives a good sharp picture before I order it - especially in comparison with the 2001FP.

And if the quality isn't that great, do you think it would be any better with a TV tuner card then?

I tested mine by just switching the inputs to one that wasn't active. The backlight stays on when you are on an inactive input and the power is on.

I received mine yesterday and am very happy with it. I wish all games were like HL2 and you could easily select 16:10 and run 1680 x 1050 because it is simply awesome.

I might just have to sell my 22" NEC FP2141SB and pick up another one.

...I got good news, ... and I got bad news....

The good news is, I GOT MY LCD today! w00t!!
...the bad news ... My computer fried about 5 minutes after admiring this beauty. :(

But never fear! I was able to run a few test and check out the image and most importantly ... TAKE PICTURES! God this thing is beautiful. I work with AutoCAD, and we have some sweet LCD's at work, but IMO... this thing blows them away! (granted, I only had 5 minutes of review time :p ) Thank god for my old Compaq (pos, but it still runs after 10 years)
I'm trying to keep in good spirits about this thing computer frying thing. How did it happen Brian? you ask. Well ... I'm not sure. Several weeks ago, I had a wire slip out of my fanbus and shorted the box out. I thought she was dead then, but it turns out it was just "grounded". After unplugging it for a bit and letting it discharge, it fired back up. But tonight, there was smoke... and there was smell. Two real bad things when it comes to PC's. I think it will be ok though.... I am fairly sure it's my power supply that failed. I will replace that tomorrow and pray nothing was damaged.

Now lets get on with it ... Here's my brief review so far. (Pictures were taking with my other new favorite toy, the Sony Cybershot DSC-W1, one month old. Best deal was found at newegg.com)
The Monitor arrived in a very well kept box via UPS. The box even had sharp corners! (can I get an "ooo" "aaa")
DSC00123.JPG

What I didn't like though about the packing was how the LCD was planted face down in the box with only a thin layer of about 1/2" styrofoam protecting it. A sharp blow to this area could do damage it would appear to me. (Such as another box corner poking/falling into it during transport.)
mmmm... sexy!
DSC00124.JPG

lets take a portrait ...
DSC00127.JPG

A nice set of connections can be found beneath the screen. Here you will find, from left to right, 2 USB (one in connector for the USB and 2 ports for use), 1 VGA standard monitor connection, 1 DVI connector, 1 s-video connector, and 1 video composite connection. I didn't get a chance to get a pic of it, but there are 2 more USB ports off to the right side of the screen.
Dsc00128.jpg

Here's my setup before the Ultrasharp invaded my world. (yes, sorry to say it, but you caught me watching The Screen Savers on the TV  . I was a fan, but G4 has really ruined the show.)
DSC00129.JPG

After a real ruff running of the cables, I fired her up. I can't tell you how beautiful this thing is. You have to see it... so on with the pics!
DSC00131.JPG

I looked and I looked, but I didn't notice one bad pixel on here. I only used a full screen view off google's home page, so it wasn't a scientific approach by any means. After all... I only had it running for 5 minutes.
DSC00132.JPG

Lets zoom in a bit closer. Notice how dark the blacks are, and of course how bright the other colors are. I can't wait to look further into this thing when I can get the pc fired up again. I didn't notice anything about the "light area's" in the corner while running. The only time I seen what fit the descriptions of the other post were before I turned on Nview and fed a signal to it. I really don't think it's an issue. I think RMA ing it just for that is a waste for it is to be expected. You'll never notice it in use. ... of course, this is all from my 1st impression in my 5 minute window of viewing it.
DSC00133.JPG

Before I knew it, my screensaver kicked in. OMF'n God! GRAB THE CAMERA! Again, notice no light leakage at the corners.
DSC00134.JPG

The screen saver smoothly shifts from night to day. This is one sharp and beautiful picture! My dad is a retired professional printer and pressman. He was floored about how sharp and full of proper color this monitor displays.
DSC00135.JPG

Well. That is all I was able to enjoy, just like you. After I took that last pic, I turned my computer case light on, then I heard a pop, seen a flash, and smelled the smoke ... then it was dark. O well, this just pushes me over the fence I was straddling to upgrade or not. The ironic part of all this PS thing (if that is what fried, I hope) is that I am expecting the new Ultra X-Connect 500 to arrive via FedEx any day now. Case-mod.com had a hell of a deal on them over the weekend and I couldn't pass it up.
I hope to be back in a day or so with more pics of games and DVD's and to finish my review, so stay tuned.

fyi. The screensaver is from Serene Screen and they just recently released a widescreen version as seen here.

Pringals,
Sorry to hear about your system passing away, hopefully the new psu will set everything right. I also got my 200FPW yesterday, and so far I'm as impressed as you are. My only problem is that now my Samsung 191T, which I've had for about 2 years doesn't look so hot. Basically it looks like the 2005FPW can do a much better job with whites then the 191T. Funny thing is, before setting up the 2005FPW I never thought the whites on the Sammy were that bad, but now as they sit side by side I'm amazed at how the differece jumps out. I'm running both in a dual head set up on a eVGA 6800 Ultra, and both are connected by DVI. I'm going to try some swapping around of cables and swap the ports each monitor uses, to see if this is a vid card or cable issue rather then a true difference in the monitors.

I agree, Screen Savers is on a decline. If it wasn't for wanting to check out Sarrah once in a while I probbaly wouldn't bother.
:p

Can anyone comment on the s-video performance? I've seen posts elsewhere with disappointing opinions (I wanted to hook my PS2 up to it).

The s-video in pip looks pretty good, but full screen isnt that great like other lcds I have seen with s-video.

The 2005fpw is available in the UK!!
I know because I'm receiving one tomorrow morning.
I can't wait one bit. Paid 566 pounds sterling for it, a fair bit more than you American folks but hopefully it'll be completely worth it.

Especially considering I decided to shell out for one of those gigabyte x800pros with 16 active pipelines as well...

Should look good next to my hercules 920pro 17" prophetview :)

Well, I'm back and ready to go again. Thank god it was only a power supply problem. I haven't had much time to do anything else besides web surfing and reading up on the daily websites I visit, so the movie review aspect and the gaming aspect I'm putting off until the weekend.
I can't get over how many people in that other thread are having problems with this thing. I'm kind of curious if they set it up properly with their video card settings, or perhaps have the "brightness" still turned all the way to max. That is how mine was when I first got it. It was sure bright! Blinding-ly so in this dark room tonight. That's the first thing I adjusted, turn it down to 50%.

Well, I got a lot to catch up on before bed. More pics to come for all those standing on that fence.

Brian

btw ... anyone interested in my old 19" Viewsonic A90f? :D ... this thing looks like crap now! ... Up till the Ultrasharp hit my desk, I thought my Viewsonic was the best thing since sliced bread. My sister could use a new monitor... I think I will pass it on. Even using the dual monitor, I find myself completely ignoring that old thing. I hope dell doesn't cancel the game anytime soon. I think I may go after another Ultrasharp :D

I have a new 2005FPW coming to me to replace this one that is messed up.

Right I just got mine, and I can't get my graphics drivers to let me have a resolution higher than 1280 x 1024 :/ How lame. I'm going to reinstall drivers and see what happens.

you need to install your monitors INF file. You can get it off the cd or go to dell and download it for the 2005fpw.

Man this monitor looks so tempting. It's now an inside battle between that or the 22" NEC CRT.

Cheers, sorted now!!

My babies :)

More pictures later...
Anyone know of a good calibration/pixel checking program?

I have a Sony 24'' widescreen.... do you think I should replace it with the 2005FPW? I wanted something with less of a footprint on my desk. But I'm afraid the "reduction" in screensize might just not be suitable for me. I'm running 1920x1400 and I love it.

Keep it obviousy.

I got mine, everything looks absolutely perfect, except that I am also having back light bleedage, I don't think I'm going to worry about it though because you can only really see it when you turn the background completely black.

What do you guys think though, should I send it back to get a another one?

acliff,

What size LCD is the second LCD in your picture? Just curious for size comparison.
