In this thread Tigerbitten prices a Q6600 for about $400-$450.

There's a Dell, w/ warranty here for $458.

I'm seriously thinking of this for SWMBO, any comments?

Fry's is still selling Q6600 w/ M/b for $280 off and on.

I'd need it to run windoze, probably in a VM, plus a VM linux

Responses needed, my anniversary is on the 29th.

You *might* be able to shave some off the cost if you fill out the Fry's deal with RAM, a case, hard drive, and DVD burner, but probably not if you have to buy a copy of Windows. Of course, if you *really* want to show your dedication to folding, you should install Linux and let SWMBO learn to use that :D.

That might be a bad idea on an anniversary

Note the anniversary only occurs every 4 years.

Just FYI the combo Tigerbitten priced out would be a good OCer...I doubt the one from Dell would be.

You could make a combo even cheaper if you went for parts that are not going to provide you with a good OC.

while that dell deal is good if your wanting a computer to actually use and fold, you can go cheaper if just wanting to fold

built Q6600 FAH rig on newegg for $365. would run OS off the flashdrive.
