Dell P2715Q / P2415Q (3840x2160p, IPS, sRGB)

Yep it's an ever so slight graininess, to be honest it's not a major issue (I have just ordered a 2nd P2715Q!)

I have been using an iMac and MacBook for the last few years which is almost like looking in a mirror haha

How do you enable 4k under windows 7? I am running it with a DP 1.2 and a 290x (latest drivers).

I did the registry hack, the pixel clock/custom resolution hacks but still no go.

The max Windows is showing me is 3200x1800.

anyone have the P2715Q? how is it for gaming?
Not too bad. Input lag is less than 1 frame, and response time is OK. If you plan to use 1920x1080 mode on less performant games or consoles, note that it isn't pixel doubled, it's filtered.

The usual IPS black level stuff also applies.

1 frame lag should be between 16.67 ~ 33.33ms lag

Theoretically, an 1080p image displayed on a 4k display should look identical to an 1080p image on a 1080p display of the same size, as you can perfectly 'pixel double' the image on the 4k (a block of 4 pixels would display the exact same color).

However, this does not happen on a filtered image, it applies the same kind of algorithm for upscaling an image to a half resolution image, making the 1080p image on a 4k display blurry and fuzzy when there shouldn't be any (it should, at most, look blocky, but no blockier than an actual 1080p monitor of the same size). The filtering is, however, required for virtually all other resolutions (eg scaling from 1440p to 4k), so there are not many monitors that do actual pixel doubling.

Actually, sub-pixel antialiasing can give a native 1080p resolution an arguable 3x the horizontal resolution of a pixel-doubled version, where the trick won't work. This will only affect desktop text, though.

Nekrosoft13, it's not going to be as crisp as a 27" 1080p monitor. Whether that's good or bad depends on preference. You might prefer that the filtering makes the pixelation go away.

Hello guys,

I have a P2715Q Revision A02 and it has a yellowish tint from the center to the bottom of the screen. I saw in this thread that I am not the only one affected by this. I tried color calibration, it gets a little bit better but doesn't resolve the problem completely. I asked Dell to send me a new monitor (It was a gift, so I passed my 30 days refundable period) and I made sure they weren't going to send me a refurbished. The costumer care specialist made sure I would get a new one and not a refurbished, let's see if she's right. Anyways, how are the odds of having a non-yellowish tint monitor?

thank you very much.

I think you'll see that on most edge-lit monitors to an extent. I have it a little bit on mine, but it's not as bad as on some other monitors I've tried (the HP zr2740w, particularly). It depends on how the backlight diffuser is implemented.

When the new one comes, take the better of the two, but if that's your only problem, you're pretty lucky.

what other problems did you get?

Ordered a P2415Q, seems to be backordered here in India. Should take 2-3 weeks to be delivered.
How's the scaling on Windows 10? What % scaling do you guys run it at?

Got a P2715Q about a week ago, and I'm running it in 1440p HIDPI mode on a 15" Retina Macbook. Other than the 5K retina iMac, this is probably the nicest display I've seen yet. Text is super sharp - actually looks fairly comparable to the retina screen sitting next to it.

My previous screen was a Acer K272HUL, and this blows that one out of the water (although, to be fair, you could buy two of those for the price of one of these).

This is pretty much the only 27" 4K display that ticks all of the boxes.

I have the P2715Q, just wondering if its possible to overclock this montitor past 60hz? Anytime I have tried it through the Nvidia control panel or pixel clock in Precision X anything past 60hz, even if its 61hz instantly goes black and has a Dell notice saying that it isn't supported. Is this a limitation of the monitor or the bandwidth available with the stock cable? I do occasional have the issue that he monitor will not get a signal upon turning it on. I usually just pull the power plug from the bottom of the screen and plug back in, and it comes right up. Just wondering if I try a better cable if it might fix both issues. What do you guys think?

I've had a P2715Q for a couple of months now and I'm impressed. It is unfortunate to read that it doesn't scale 1080p correctly. I had assumed pixel doubling would be automatic. I mostly bought it for Photoshop/Lightroom use, and it is fantastic in that regard, and the extra resolution is appreciated even in general computer use. I haven't played any games on it yet so I haven't had a chance to see what 1080p looks like.

I did have to go through two monitors before I found one that was satisfactory. The first two had some spots near the center of the screen. Not dead pixels, and probably about the size of 10-15 individual pixels. They looked like potentially a backlight issue and were most visible on a white background. The third monitor has a spot near the bottom of the screen but it is well hidden by the taskbar so I decided to keep it.

Besides the frustration of returning the first couple displays, it really is a fantastic monitor. I was debating between the P2715Q and the LG 27MU67 with FreeSync. Since availability of the LG was delayed I went with the Dell.

Do any of the recent P2715Q owners still experience yellow tinting issues?

I bought a P2715Q rev A01 last week, but the picture quality was disappointing. There were two vertical yellow stains on the screen, and the bottom part gets darker/greener. It’s not easily detectible when viewing photos or videos, but you can see it straight away on lighter backgrounds. After some searching online it appeared to be a common issue. That’s why I immediately returned it within the “no questions asked” return period. Both the 8 year old 2007WFP and 2407WFP here at home don’t show any clearly visible uniformities issues to me (or any other monitor I’ve worked with for that matter), so I don’t think I’m being unreasonable.

The image below is a picture of the monitor. Is yours better? Would Dell say this is within spec?

If the more recent versions (A02/A03) don’t have these issues, I’d like to try again. If not, I’ll have to search for another monitor.

I had the same problem in september. Dell sent me 2 screens, same problem!

Welp, I got my P2415Q in the mail about an hour ago. Set it up, ran through a few games of Battlefront before firing up Premiere Pro - not 20 minutes into use I started getting horizontal lines, glitching, and then it popped to black with the glitched desktop image fading away slowly, lines and all. This is Displayport into a 980 Ti which works fine on other monitors, albeit not 4K.

Tried it with my retina MacBook Pro 15" and same issue with the included mDP to DP cable. Lines, glitching, popping in and out of black, and then finally it'll just go "No DP cable" but the image of the desktop will be faded and glitched in a small portion of the display towards the right side.

https://youtu.be/vg__rzKx0QM Here's a small video of the issue on my MacBook.

And here's a crappy cell phone image of once it decides there's no cable plugged in. This image persists whether I pull the cable out or leave it in.

I got this through Amazon and they're sending me a replacement, but it's gonna be six days before I see it. Brutal. I was planning on using this time to test and see if I wanted to return and get the 27 incher or not.

:edit: So with some further testing, if I power the monitor off and let it sit for a while, coming back to it results in a perfectly working display. After about 5 minutes, the screen flashes in the center, and becomes TWO images on the left side (see this image: http://i.imgur.com/EC9tfDH.jpg), ONE image on the right side, all melded together by this corruption-y looking horizontal line-filled dark area in the center where it fades together. The timeline of cooled-down unused monitor to distorted half-double image is identical every time.

Switching to MST modes does nothing to alleviate, nor does powering on and off everything. Eventually, the OSD firmware menus become distorted too.

Has anyone seen this issue at all? It's an A03 model. I haven't been able to find anything digging around the web.

Okay, replacement P2415Q has arrived. Pretty nice, but coming straight from an old Ultrasharp 2407WFP there's a bit more ghosting - is this typical? It's not terrible, but I was getting used to my 2407 after having it in storage forever.

Also, have a pretty ugly "warm yellow" splotch on the bottom right near the power button reaching up to about the topmost menu button. It doesn't show unless there's black down there, but any content with crop bars it really sucks - another thing my 2407 doesn't have (nor does my U2711 back in LA).

Should I get a third replacement or cut my losses? Or better yet, look for a different monitor alltogether? I like it, but it definitely doesn't have the build quality of my past Ultrasharps that have taken me from 2005 to present - It's the hunt for pixel density that brought me to this monitor. Games look great(980Ti can juuuuust barely hold out at ultra), text looks great, OS X looks great on the hackintosh side - but I'm torn on the quality.

For what it’s worth, those using a 4K monitor with Windows 7 at zoom of 200% and suffering from Windows Explorer’s bug that causes wrong lengths of address bar (very short) and search box (almost entire window width) can work around the issue with the new free program ExplorerHiDpiFix that forcedly sets lengths of the fields at ratio of 3:1 (75% / 25%) for Explorer windows that were already open on program start and new windows once they are opened or their size changed while the program is running. Happy new year.
