Dell m1210 vs m1330 as far as Performance?

Ok, I am looking at both of these. I know cosmetically the m1330 is nicer and slimmer but as far as gaming performance, would the m1210 outperform the m1330? I want something smaller than my current laptop but I also want it to have some graphics power, nothing major. So what do you guys think?

The M1330 is going to clean the M1210's clock in terms of video performance, since the M1210 has been phased out in most cases (if not altogether). That and the CPU options on the M1330 are going to be much better for gaming as a whole, especially if you can opt for one of the Penryn-era Core 2 Duos (T8000 or T9000 series).

Besides, ergonomics do matter. I've reviewed the M1530, and it's a much better design than the old XPS systems. The M1330 is really just a smaller M1530 and should be a nice option if you want something for basic (but definitely current) gaming.

Whether the 1210 can outperform the 1330 will (obviously) depend on what's in the two systems. If you've decked out the 1330 (i.e. 8400, top up the RAM, and top end videocard) then it will be faster, whereas if you get a bottom end 1330 and compare it against a 1210 from a year ago that was fully upgraded I would expect the 1210 to outperform the 1330.

The 8400 is faster than the 7400, so yes, the m1330 will be better than the m1210 for gaming. Performance in other aspects will depend on what CPU and how much RAM you put in the machine.

They are both pretty close, but if you got the $$$$ get the 1330. Very nice system.

as far as I can tell, the m1210 can't even be had for a good enough amount less than the m1330. Most importantly, it doesnt weigh ANY less than the 1330. This is important, because when you are at this size class, portability and weight matter... and since the 1330 offers much more in terms of video power and screen size, plus superior ergonomics, the 1330 is just so much a better buy....

Thanks alot to everyone who helped out. Yes I think I will be purchasing the m1330. But one more question. Between the m1330 and m1530, is the performance leap from the 8400 to the 8600 large enough to go with the m1530 even when running the 1530 at 1680x1050 (the native rez of the screen i would get)?

8400-8600 is night and day....

but the 15 inch lappy of course weighs alot more....

if you want an 8600gt, go with a vostro.... they give you great bang for the buck, and compared to the XPS, are a much, much....MUCH better buy...

I did look at the vostro but I really dont like how bulky they are. They seem to be very thick. If anyone has any pictures please post them.

While the 8400 is better than the 7400 by a solid amount, its still FAR from a gamers card.

Hit best buy if you have one close, they'll have the 1330 and a 1530 on display. You can get a feel for the form factors that way. I love my 1330 and wouldn't trade it for anything, but i don't game with it. No doubt in my mind the 8600 is a substantial upgrade over the 8400, night and day.

I love my 1330 and the 8400 is certainly respectable for gaming. It plays Portal, LOTRO, Sins of a Solar Empire just fine.

honestly, there really isnt much extra heft on the vostros compared to the m1530s .......

i know there are many [H]ers that got vostros because of the cheap 8600s when all is said and done, and I'm pretty sure they are all happy with their purchases... maybe one of them can chime in?

I know someone who plays COD4 on a 1330 just fine. Actually, I think she has the integrated graphics. Don't expect photorealism, but you'll get decent frame rates.

not on the Intel chip, maybe the 8400GS.

I have an M1210 with the 7400 and I can play COD4 nice and smooth with most settings on medium and some on high. It's an awesome laptop.

It'll be very obvious the M1330 will destroy the M1210 in performance, hence the reason why the M1210 was replaced by the M1330.
