Dell Inspiron 518 - Q8300, 6GB RAM, 640GB, DVDRW - $350

What's the most powerful GPU that can fit into that rig?

The PSU is 375w IIRC, possibly underrated. I'm not sure if it has a 6 pin connector. But its a normal ATX PSU so you could potentially put in any GPU you want.

Unofficially, you could probably run a 5850 if you didn't overclock anything and didn't add other peripherals and the PSU has most of the watts on the 12V rail. Otherwise.... I'd max it out at 100-125W of consumption. So maybe a 5770, but definitely a 5750.

....provided it is a 375W.

Not bad at all. Throw in a decent gpu, and a monitor and you have a nice gaming rig.

Dell's PSUs are supposedly underrated and my experience in the past may support that. I think it's a pretty good deal.

That is incredibly cheap

I was also thinking a 5850/5770/4770/ect

bump for more opinions, I'm really thinking about getting this. How much do 5750s go for these days and how good of a card it is?

Also, what is the difference in performance between these cards: 5850/5770/4770

I plan on gaming on a 22" screen, I think the resolution is 1050. Thanks.

For a gaming machine you should be golden with a 5770..my 2 cents..anyone concur :) ?

Sounds solid to me, equivalent of a Q6600 and HD4870 1GB pretty much. Though I've got a 5750 which does just fine at 1920x1200 so long as you're not maxing crysis. Only 2xAA but mass effect, tf2, assassin's creed, etc are all quite smooth.

I'm really tempted to grab this for a spare office unit. If you wait until you need one, they can be hard to find this cheap and this loaded. Thinking .......

Does anyone know the specs for the motherboard? Could it support a new video card? It only lists open PCI and 2-PCI-Express x1.

GPU these days are all PCI..............the last AGP card was the 5200 like 7 years ago..................................................

"Installed Video Memory: 256 MB"

In other words, it's already got some kind of graphics card installed, and the expansion slots list only shows the free slots.

Not quite. Nvidia's last AGP card meant for gaming was the 7900. That was released about three years ago.

Not all resellers have even yet taken down their 7x00 AGP card listings; buy.com and amazon being examples.

And they're still sold in the FSFT forum here recently:

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1460938

But you can still buy *NEW* AGP cards from resellers, too.

Then again, PCI video cards existed before AGP video cards...

But it has a PCI-e x16 slot; they just don't list it as it's already got a card in it, so it's not available.

Pic of the motherboard can be found here:

Anyone buy from this site before?

http://www.resellerratings.com/store/WeeklyCloseouts

Nothing within the last year, but three favorable reviews, and only one person took the time to write the obligatory negative review...

Unless you're planning to pay strictly by mailing cash in an envelope, I'd say you're fine...

And I'm sure SquareTrade will give you a longer warranty for a few bucks...

Tempting indeed. I'm thinking of buying it but not sure about PC gaming. Not too go off topic but what are the most popular PC games these days?

Looks like it would be a great box for a WHS / video conversion server.

refurb?
website people may doubt?

awesome deal!

Why thank you smart ass, but no one here said you have to buy it. Just passing on the deal to those who care.

The website is legit, and buying a refurb has never been an issue for me. Buying 2nd hand systems will save you money, help the environment, and everyone I've bought has been in mint condition.

A few months ago I bought the cheaper Inspiron 530 from the outlet, and I put a GTX260 in it with no problems. The system cost me $220 with free shipping. As a secondary PC or for when someone comes over for some LAN action, it's perfect.

That's bad when your backup system is better than my mine box by far.

:(

Time to upgrade

Looks like a good deal, but does anyone on here know anything about weeklycloseouts.com? There doesn't seem to be very much information about them out there.

looks like a sweet deal to me. worse case you gotta put another ps in. still a good deal none the less.

As others have said, Dell highly underrates their PSU units, guess is they are erring on the side of caution. My XPS 420 had a 350 or 375W PS and ran a 8800 GTS 512 MB G92 just fine.

Dell Outlet has scratch & dent and refurbs of this model with various configurations starting at $519. http:///outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&lob=DIM&MODEL_DESC=Inspiron 518&s=dfh

It looks like the video card is most likely an ATI 3450. The product page specs from Dell lists the power supply as only being 300 watts. http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfh/desktops/desktop-inspiron-518/pd.aspx?refid=desktop-inspiron-518&s=dfh&cs=22

I would consider this deal very hot if not for the unknown reputation of the seller. Factoring in the unknown variable of the seller I would rate it as warm and advise anyone to use a credit card to purchase to protect themselves.

Who has jumped on this deal. I am on the fence about it for a new office machine.

Anyone order?

Anyone recieve?

Beuller?
