Update: The deal is gone. The prices have been raised $200.

As seen on the [H]ard|OCP front page

Dell Small Business has $200 off its line of OptiPlex desktops. However the N series OptiPlexes have an additional $200 off if you check the $200 Instant Savings! box. N series means it has no operating system. It is Red Hat Certified.

Link to GX280n

Strip it down to the Celeron D 325, 256MB DDR2 400, 40 GB SATA, no optical, no floppy, integrated video, and the $200 savings box to get the $258 price on the Mini-Tower.

The GX280n Mini-Tower specs:
CPU: From Intel® Celeron® D Processor 325 (2.53GHz, 256k, 533MHz FSB) to Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 570J (3.80GHz, 1M, 800MHz FSB)
Memory: DDR2 Non-ECC SDRAM, 400MHz or 533Mhz, 4GB max.
HDD: 40, 80, 160 or 250 GB SATA
Expansion: 2 Internal 3.5", 1 External 3.5", 2 External 5.25", 1 PCIe x16, 2 PCI, 1 PCIe x1
USB: 8 USB 2.0 (6 back, 2 front)
Complete Specs

Not quite a SC420, but you do get true PCIe x16 in a BTX case.

Good deal on a cheap desktop. If Dell offers this deal again in a month or two, I may just bite and pick one up with P4 3.0 ghz.

I never thought I'd buy (another one!) Dell.

Wait, BTX actually exists?
yep. hardocp even had an article link last week sometime (maybe even the previous week) saying that dell is making a big push on btx form factor. the side comment was along the lines of "hp, compaq, etc. will probably be following dell's lead". even some gateway computer models that began appearing at best buy stores a few months ago were btx.

but there hasn't been any really big announcements for the arrival of btx. you have to look carefully for the time being to find where they're starting to get used.

i came to 264 out the door, and i got an itchy trigger finger, im going to have to think about this...........

It's hotter today if you have a 10% off code in your email. The codes are one time use and apply to the whole order.

I configured a base desktop GX280n for $249 - $24.90 = $224.10 and a base minitower GX240n for $259 - $25.90 = $233.10 (+ tax on each). :D

damn nice deal...i've been looking for a p4 to do some video processing on...

what's the difference between the 520J, 530J, and 540J processors, other than speed? is there a reason the 2.8 and the 3.2 are the same price, but the 3.0 is $20 cheaper? sorry for the stupid question, but I haven't kept up with intel procs for awhile now...

soooo tempted.

For $350 you can get it with a DVD-ROM and 512MB of ram.

such a good deal.

Skip the dell upgrades and just buy the memory and DVD-ROM elsewhere. For example, a couple of places on pricewatch have DDR2 256MB DIMMs for under $25 shipped (1/2 the price of the Dell upgrade) and a few places on pricewatch have black Lite-On 16x DVD-ROMs for $24 shipped. That would save $35 total vs Dell.

Also, hunt down a 10% off SB coupon. This clown (not me... i'd give away extra codes if i had any) has 6 for $3.98 each: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31411&item=5573010762&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW . That's the cheapest price i saw.

This is tempting me for $376.20 ($418 - $41.80):

If it had RAID, i'd order it right now... but i'll have to think about instead.

Yeah, I know upgrades are often cheaper through a third party. I was thinking in terms of my comapny buying a bunch. It's good ot have the whol ebox under a Dell warranty in case the PC guy is out.

Thanks, OP! Had to pay tax but got the 10% off. Upgraded to an 80GB HDD (only +$18, I think).

Did you notice that the 3 1/2 floppy was free?
On the desktop - I didn't check the mini-tower.

Normally Dell charges out the yin-yang for a floppy drive.

It's also free on the mini-tower. The printed quick reference guide (manual) is the other free upgrade. :p

Hmm... so tempted now. I just received the 2 Asus 6200 GE 128MB/128-bit cards from newegg right now that I linked above ($61 shipped each, 3.6ns memory). The last 4 refurb video cards I bought at newegg have all been in the retail box with all accessories. Weird. If these 2 cards also work, i'm going to buy a lottery ticket. ;)

damn...i just looked at my dell SB e-mail from today, and i have codes for laptops & LCD's, but not desktops...what list are you guys on to get the desktop deals?

PCI/E 16x - standard (meaning unlike the SC420 you won't have to dremel it to fit in a standard PCI/E gfx card)

came out to $549 shipped after tax for both systems. I have a couple of 64-bit P4s that i'll throw in those (3.4F and 630)

sarcasm
I can't wait to start working on these systems
/sarcasm

The past two weeks I've done nothing but replace motherboards in Optiplex systems...not in the towers though. It's all in the SFF and Desktops. Seems they lack sufficient cooling to keep components from messing up. Everything from no video to NIC not working. BTX may just put me out of a job.

You done made me go and buy one. :D
Of course, since I'm a punk, I decided to up the ram, CPU, and HDD, but that's no biggie.
Not a bad deal.

Thanks to the OP.

Hmmmm

I configuring the box and checking the $200 off but the price is still 449 am I doing something wrong?

it ended last night after a 3 day run.

Do these have SATA Raid?

To the best of my knowledge, no. Only Precision Workstations have RAID capability (the exception being the high end Dimensions)

All good things must come to an end.

Looks like they must have fixed the mistake.

Bah, i wish more low profile pci-e cards were available now. All I can find is x300/x300 SE cards.

I assume this is only necessary for the desktop version (not the mini-tower)??
